Yes, you could go buy a gnex and have cutting edge software support, and all of the kernel source you could ever want...but you'd be running all of this software on outdated hardware. The S3 is another option, but IMO, the HOX still has superior hardware. When HTC finally does hook us up, we will have arguably the best AOSP/AOKP/Custom ROM device ever built.

Look at what the developers have done on the HOX without the source. Once source hits, development will take off, and all of those who were impatient and traded/sold their HOX for a gnex or S3 will be wishing they had them back.

I went through the same exact thing with the Skyrocket, and when source finally hit the development exploded and we almost instantly got official CM9 and AOKP support. Expect the same with the HOX. Patience is virtue.
Until the new 1080p 5inch HTC One Quad Core with LTE and upgraded Adreno graphics comes out later this year, yep.

True, but at that point the HOX will still have superior hardware to the phones people are jumping to now; and when the new 1080p 5inch HTC One Quad Core with LTE and upgraded Adreno graphics comes out, it will be another 90-120 days before the source for that phone is released. The consumer never wins - we should know this by now.

It will be released as required under the GPL. There are all sorts of dirty tricks they can use though to delay it, which they appear to be using. They say 90-120 days after release, but never specify the release of what? Is it the release of the Rogers/Telus One X(L), the AT&T One X, or the International XL variants which were released to European carriers later? HTC won't say, and hasn't given any of the LTE-variants source yet.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact that Europe got the XL after North America, and since they share the same hardware (and same kernel I'm assuming), they might not want to give the Europeans the source so close to the release.
