spotify and other running apps

Hi Guys,

I'm planning to get this motoactv wonderful gadget and I'll flash to DPRom from day 1. But I'd like to ask about the behaviour with the custom ROM.

I usually run with my Galaxy S2 with runtastic pro app and play music with spotify in offline mode at the same time. It works great but the idea to have the same in a watch is fantastic.

My question is:

Is it possible to have with custom ROM spotify playing in the background and the stock running app at the same time?

Or will I be able to keep using other running apps like runtastic Pro in the motoactv?

If that's positive I'm ordering one from amazon.uk (141 pounds) right away.

Thanks in advance.

So I tried something out with Titanium Backup which may be useful for others here on the fence with which Rom to stick with (its more of a flavor of the week sort of thing right now for me.)

I installed DPRom Beta 8 and while I love whats been added, I have a real problem getting Dead Trigger to run reliably on it. ClearD's rom has a better time with it, although I miss out on cool stuff like Live Wallpapers from DP's rom... I think you see where I'm going here, I installed DP's rom and backed up the Live Wallpaper APKs which I later restored via Titanium Backup once I wiped and installed ClearD's rom. I'm sure people more advanced with this stuff could simply push their own APKs over, but I'm still a greenhorn with Android.

Best of both worlds, although there are a couple things I'd still like to incorporate into ClearD's rom which DP's rom has like the accelerometer and a cleaned up notifications UI in Zeam. I'd still consider Live Wallpapers a nice addition :)

MOTOACTV with Nike+ App

Ok, so I got my new 8GB MotoACTV rooted using "MotoACTV Root Tool V1.1.6 dot exe".
It was painless and I got success message so I assume my MotoACTV is rooted.

What is the next step if I just need to get Nike+ app on it? I dont care about all fancy stuff...like games/browser and all. Just need Nike+ and may be if there are tweaks to get battery last longer.

Can anyone help me here? Thanks in advance.

Hello!!

I just want to know if you or anyone could install the Nike+ app in a rooted MOTOACTV, because if it is possible to load and run, I will buy one right away!! This is the app that I used for my runs and is perfect for me. Please help with this, I will wait for your answers, Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong CEnnis91, but if the filesystem on the SD is damaged/corrupt, even a safe environment won't allow us to repartition back to original sd state. What I've known and tested way back in 2003 was that once internal storage is corrupt, system partition or recovery no longer identify that disk. Repartitioning/Reformating always fail as preset partition table is no longer identifiable. System & Recovery identify disk partitions through a preset partition table, when you repartition manually using external software, you change the partition table signature. System and Recovery no longer identify it or access it to repartition it back to normal, unless... Now here comes the tricky part. Samsung and HTC have both developed a way to restore bad/identifiable partition tables by releasing factory partition fingerprints to be used with ODIN. When restoring a rom image using ODIN, you have the option of selecting a factory partition fingerprint which allows full repartitioning & reformating of entire internal storage prior to writing rom image.

As far as I know, fastboot does not have that option and neither do we have a MotoACTV partition fingerprint to work or rely on. That is why I am skeptical on trying my test method on the watch for now. Again, my information dates back to 2003, when PDAs' internal flash were voltage dependent. Now with Non-volatile ram, internal flash has become way more stable, but same data read/write principles apply.

My information could be slightly outdated and would love to know more about how you were able to restore internal flash using fastboot without utilizing a factory partition fingerprint.

Appreciate your valuable insight.

PS: As for what more could be installed on this watch, trust me when I say this, we've barely scratched the surface. My attempts of building a fully functional rom have failed because of the limited space we have and it's been getting on my nerves lately :p

Unfortunately I'm not able to confirm much from what you said; I looked around and did a little research but was unable to get a concrete enough answer. I do know there is partition data on the device and I do know it's accessible and flashable even through the sbf protocol, but without an sbf image to use, we might be out of luck, I will have to consult [mbm] on this matter to gather more information.

Hello. I am new to the XDA forums and have been intrigued with the Motoactv ever since it was rooted. I have searched through the posts and have found that Grooveip and Google Voice have been tested on some ROM (Clear's?; page 71 of this thread) with Grooveip unfortunately being useless since the person being called cannot hear your voice. I noticed the latest DPRom also does not have audio input functionality.

How much progress has been made on resolving this issue? Can it even be resolved? My inner **** Tracy would like to know. :p

Thank you for all your hard work, CEnnis91 and everyone else who has contributed to rooting and developing for this watch.

Audio input in the MotoACTV seems to be capped at 8000 Khz by software. Any program that tries to use audio input fails because they try to use 44100 Khz. The audio hardware supports 44100Khz, but we need to find a way to modify that setting.
I think using the ALSA configuration files it's possible to do a direct conversion, but maybe the driver or the kernel needs to be modified too.

Interesting. Since I do not possess the ability to help tweak the ALSA files or modify any driver or kernel, I eagerly await the day a solution is found. Thanks for the quick reply. :)

What is the purpose of the /preinstall partition? It seems totally useless to me...

You can explore it with any root file browser. You'll see it has the Text-to-Speech data for the workout instructions. The Stock rom also had the Adobe flash app. In DPRom I added several useful programs. When programs are installed from the /preinstall partition, it allows the user to uninstall them from the applications settings. If those programs were included in the /system partition, users would need to use more difficult methods to remove them. Also, /system is small. /preinstall is quite convenient, IMO.

Decided to have a go with video encoding for this device, and it handles regular mp4 (ffmpeg) videos @ 220x176 with ease. No frame dropping and A/V sync. Sucks to have to reencode video, but if you want it to play correctly, its the most reliable route. I'm using Handbrake, pretty easy to set up a moto profile and just batch out what you want.At this size, you're looking at roughly 1 meg a minute. I've reencoded some perfect pacman runs and use them as live video wallpapers, pretty nice :)

Speaker for MotoActv

I've been working on this for some time...

The speaker looks compact. Very handy addition. Great idea.

Is the speaker on the underside of the band? I can't tell for sure in the video.

I registered with Nike+ and installed the Nike+ running app. It installs and runs ok, but it's not very useable because the screens don't render properly and so controls are missing.

Sorry.

Thats really cool. I have been using a bluetooth speaker at night but if I dont charge my watch before going to bed it will die in the middle of the night. I'm not sure how you made yours, but it seems feasible that we could just mount a small cellphone speaker in the wrist strap. It already has a small hole in the center but if the speaker is too big we could easily enlarge it.

I'm using a very thin (0.9mm) water-proof piezo speaker from Murata. I machined a custom piece that snaps into the wristband hole to hold the speaker in place, plus a few other things that I prefer not to disclose yet.

I'm building a few of these and will offer them for sale here in a few weeks. I will take more pictures and demonstrate it better then.

Sold!

Edit -

Figured out the issue I was having after removing my system apps via the Easy Modder and not being able to set the time anymore. What was happening is that the settings app would force quit after selecting "Set Time" from the menu. It was trying to call Tumbler.apk, the watch's stock way setting the time with the rotating wheels (tumblers). Reinstalling it sorted this out. Just an FYI for others, as you don't need to install Launcher2.apk to access it, or another launcher that offers short cuts directly to the function itself if you're partial to using Zeam like myself.

Looking forward to more pictures.

I've changed me mind about wanting one of your speakers. I've decided to return my MotoActv for a refund. It's uncomforable to wear on my wrist. Maybe I'll try again if Motorola comes up with better wrist band options.

Endomondo

Hi there!

Is anyone using Endomondo on their rooted Motoactv? I've always been using Endomondo on my phones and I bought this Motoactv when I were in Us, but I don't really like to Motoactv-training app.

Then I found this thread about rooting, I didn't know that it could be done, awsome!

But does Endomondo work properly for anyone? I'm thinking about the screen size for example.

Best Regards,
Anders

    CWMR ported

    Hello,

I have ported CWMR 5.0.2.7 to the Motoactv (F100) device.

    actvcmwr.png

    Code:
    #include <std_disclaimer.h>
    /*
    * Your warranty is now void.
    *
    * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
    * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
    * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
    * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
    * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
    */

The procedure for this is as follows. You MUST have working adb knowledge to use this and you must be able to restore using the available tool should any problems arise. This is considered an ALPHA release that may need additional work. I did not have access to the device during the port so all testing was done through TheEndGame7. THERE MAY BE ISSUES, you are warned.

    1) Download this file: CWMR5x_F100_recoveryA.img
    2) adb push CWMR5x_F100_recoveryA.img /data/local/
    3) adb shell (become root)
    4) dd if=/data/local/CWMR5x_F100_recoveryA.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk1p13
    5) exit adb from the device
    6) adb reboot recovery (you should be in CWMR now)

The source for the device config is here. Please feel free to go wild with development on this because I do not have the device and likely won't be contributing much more except bug fixes. If you use this source, please give credit where it's due.

NOTE: there are missing images(known). This is because the ramdisk is EXTREMELY finicky on this device and it WILL NOT BOOT past 3.66mb in size. I trimmed out things that weren't needed in order to make this work. The basic functionality you need should be there. adb is also not functioning properly yet within recovery.

    MotoACTV Easy Modder v0.1

    Post removed, see below.

Well, it was a *****, but here is build 2, moving to Beta at this point in 'Moto red' by request of TEG.

There is 1 lingering issue: usb support in recovery. It is a bastard, going to really have to tear this thing apart to debug why. Right now, recovery can backup, restore, wipe, flash roms, etc. All the stuff you're used to working, now does. I fixed images by shrinking the kernel to fit more stuff in here. You should no longer get any weird image errors. I bumped you up to 5.0.2.8 source as well.

Flash this file the same as before via adb and dd.
    CWMR5x_F100_recoveryB.img

    adb push CWMR5x_F100_recoveryB.img /data/local/
    adb shell
    # dd if=/data/local/CWMR5x_F100_recoveryB.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk1p13
    # exit
    adb reboot recovery

Some additional notes I'd like to share that might help you as you mess with this device now that I've played with one.

    1) NEVER use adb reboot bootloader for any reason. You get stuck in a ****tily programmed loop of hell. The way out of this loop is by following these instructions:

    a) hold START, POWER, VOL UP, VOL DOWN together for 10 seconds at least. You should see the screen flicker on and off twice.
    b) plug in the USB cable to turn device on
    c) you should boot back to rom, if not, do it again. It's touchy.

    2) The 'soft' reset is done by START + POWER for 5 seconds.

Enjoy. Source is updated. This will likely be the last update unless I get adb working.
