Chainfire root didn't work for me. Couldn't get around Knox. Towelroot failed. I flashed this and... NIRVANA! Thanks!

Dang it. Flashed, wiped system, dalvik, cache and data, I'm on a good bootloader, but after flashing it's not booting after 5 minutes...

Well, need an alarm in the morning (and the rest of the phone), so restoring nandroid.

Suggestions welcome (and thanked)

Thanks in advance.

Edit:

BTW, I had mentioned before but this is my Bootloader:
Big thanks! Current bootloader is listed as I747UCDLK3.

Well, looks like it just had a bad copy from my computer to the phone. Tried again after copying again, this time to the internal SD (not external SD), I'm getting boot animation....!!! Waiting...and it boots!!

Gonna give this a go for a few days.....

I am unable to edit the APN settings, and there are none. I can call and text, but no MMS, no data, no tethering. Something must be wrong. I go into settings>connections>more networks>mobile networks and it says "Insert SIM card to access network services".

OK, so wifi was broke from the get-go, flashed Ktoonsez kernel, wifi works. But now no data. Going to try to flash an alternate modem, listed a few pages back.

If no go, I cannot use this ROM. This is a ridiculous amount of work in the first place.

EDIT:
Alright so turns out my modem was no bueno for this rom. Data is connected after flashing the MJB modem.

Alright, I wonder if anybody else has these same issues...? Here's a list of Pros and Cons in my experience flashing this ROM. Due to battery life I had to go back to previous.

Pros:
TW Camera
Stock features such as motion settings and the setting for lock screen that doesn't need reentry of the PIN before x # of minutes
Xposed Framework is installed with the ROM

Cons:
Biggest con was battery life being about 4 to 6 hours for my normal usage. I'm used to 12 to 16.
Most time-consuming flash I can remember - None of my apps auto-downloaded from Play Store and needed manually installed, and I needed to research and flash a different modem to get Data working.
Wifi broken out of box. Research and flash alternate kernel for WiFi.
Rom came out of the box with all default notifications set to sounds that didn't exist. Maybe something changed from JB to KK that affects this? Missed a few calls and texts before I realized it.

Sorry, but I depend on this tool more than I have time to allow for all the fiddling that needed to be done to get stuff working. This is not necessarily a mark against Dandroid and the developers, but more against me not having time to track down all the issues. I just don't have time to do it. Thought this would be useful info for someone else who doesn't have as much time to play as they wish they had!

Did you do a full wipe and Back to Odin? If not, that's probably what caused your ringtone issue. I know that doing a dirty install will cause some leftover settings and other crud to be left behind (If I didn't I would have three different stock clock apps by now.)

As for apps auto-installing, I personally am glad it wasn't there. Have you tried Titanium Backup? I run it everyday, and when I flash a new ROM, I can restore all of my apps, and all of its settings too boot (much quicker than Google re-installing everything, and no need to log in to every app)! I'll have to see how battery goes over the next couple days, but it's much snappier than any other TW ROMs I've run.

No, if that's specified I missed it. I saw somewhere that a full wipe was sufficient (wanna say cache, dalvik, system and data, but not 100% sure)

I am familiar w/ TiBu, and am a big fan. I think it was from JB to KK that most of my backups broke the installation so badly that I needed to reflash. (Had to do w/ the permissions changes Google introduced I think). Because Dandroid is JB and LS is KK TiBu was not an option. (Or at least I thought it wasn't but I could be wrong!) Since then I try hard to have only apps that keep my data cloud-side. Then when Joogles auto installs my apps, I sign in and I'm done. More time? Yes. More patience required? Yes. More stable? Yes. Stability is what I need when I'm depending on my phone to do the job for which I got it :)

He says that can help, in general, in the second post (I think). Which I did simply because I hadn't in a hell of a long time(or ever). But I did realize that some of my tones were, in fact blank. So, no fault of your own there. I also realized, the tones are fewer than most ROMs, which I completely appreciate! So, minor nuisance there, but worth it, to not scroll through hundreds of tones I'll never use; IMO.

I think it was from JB to KK that most of my backups broke the installation so badly that I needed to reflash.

That'll probably do it, I've only gone between 4.1.2 and 4.3. Although, what about only restoring Apps+Data strictly for User apps? That should leave the ROM itself intact, but restore all of the apps. Thoughts?

I want to say that's what I did - is there another option in free TiBu? But I've slept since then :)

Not really, but sort of. Just do the normal "Apps+Data" restore, and just select only your apps. There's nothing to restore just use apps built-in.

If that's what you did, then the transition from KK to JB must have broken it. Also, might I recommend upgrading to the "donation" version of TiBu? Well worth it IMO, it makes restoring a breeze. No need to tap OK for each app.

Thank you.

Instead of going directly to the latest you should go to the next above yours, and then to the next above that. Repeat until you are on the latest bootloader and modem.

Having said that, this ROM will work on the 4.3 bootloader and modem. The main reason to upgrade past that is if the newer modem works better at your locations. (Make sure you keep the bootloader and modem on matching versions.)

What bootloader and modem are you currently on?

Here's what I see on the "About device" section:
Android vestion: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I747MVLDMF1
Build number: 4.7

I've been using this version of Dandroid for several years now. I want to give my S3 to my wife so I thought I'd flash the latest available version of Dandroid before I do.

Okay, you must be on the i747M from one of the Canadian or Mexican providers.

That doesn't indicate the bootloader. If you never put a custom ROM on the device it should be the same as the baseband(modem) and ROM version. You can verify the bootloader with the "Samsung Info" app from the PlayStore or from Terminal Emulator if you have one installed. In the terminal window enter
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader

If the bootloader is indeed the same as the baseband you need to upgrade to MK5 bootloader and modem to meet this ROMs requirements. enewman17 posted a download link for the MK5 pair, give thanks to him for the file. Or, you could go to sammobile and update to the stock rom for your device before flashing Dandroid ROM. Going the stock ROM route would probably clean up the internal storage more thoroughly than only flashing the bootloader and modem. At the sammobile site there is more than one MK5 rom available, they are sorted by carrier. I know some of the carriers share firmware, but I don't know if all do.

If you want the newest bootloader and modem, then you just continue the process going from one pair to the next for your carrier. The carriers seem to be splitting on which version is next. After MK5 you have ND2 or ND3 depending on your carrier. Likewise there are more options for the 4.4.2 bootloader and modem, depending on carrier.

Once you have upgraded your bootloader and modem, flash the ROM in accordance with the instructions in the first post of this thread. BTW, you may want to take the opportunity to sim unlock your phone before upgrading from 4.1.2. To do so will first require downgrading to 4.1.1, look for the free unlock thread for instructions.

The latest version of this ROM is posted in the first post of the thread. Danvdh has one other ROM for this device, it is also based on android 4.3. It is called DanKang and was posted to the forum a month before this one was.

HTH.

Thank you very much for the detailed reply. I have one of the older versions of this rom on my S3. I will update my bootloader and modem and install the latest version.

Loserskater This guy is the man, seriously. I would not be able to do this without him. I've lost count on how many things he's contributed to this ROM, past and present. AOSP MMS would not be possible on touchwiz without him. Give him your thanks, guys like him make this community what it is.
enewman17 - I've learned alot from breaking open your rom's and seeing what's inside, great dev and alot of Dandroid would not be possible without him, I've had to keep his APK's decompiled for reference this whole time,

If you're having issues on my ROM that no one else is reporting, or I haven't reproduced on my phone, read the following.

    1) Full wipe
    2) Do not restore System data or data from CWM
    3) Do not dirty flash from other ROM's
    4) When was the last time you did a odin to stock? this is important in my opinion and I'm not saying you need to do one but I just want to explain that custom zip's that I make and other dev's make in the shape of "roms" only affect
a few partitions on your device, other's do not get touched and can get messy/corrupt over the months (This explains why the GPS icon disappears in some peoples cases during rom switch) and this is why I get posts in this thread about people wondering why their baseband hasn't been updated after flashing my rom when my post states "MF1"

With this being said my personal rule of thumb is to odin to stock latest and then boot into stock recovery and factory reset, wipe cache/dalvik (BACKUP YOUR SD CARD TO YOUR COMPUTER), this gives your phone fresh partitions everywhere, a fresh system to root and the latest bootloader (which you need for any AOSP 4.2 rom). This is also a good time to unlock your phone if you have not already, then reroot and install custom recovery, update the recovery if need be and flash again on a brand new system. here are my steps

    1) backup all user apps and data with titanium backup, DO NOT BACKUP SYSTEM APP'S
    2) backup internal storage onto PC
    3) Odin to stock latest
    4) wait for phone to boot then reboot into stock recovery and full wipe and clear all cache
    5) reboot and root the phone and custom recovery
    6) flash away and put what you need on your internal storage back onto your phone via usb, see my 2nd set of instructions below

this fixes more issues then you will realize. some of the way people flash rom's on XDA and complain to me with problems is rather funny considering I have the install instructions in the OP, not to mention many of you rooted your phone when you first got it in the ICS 4.0.4 day's and haven't done an odin to stock jellybean to update all your partitions including your bootloader, now I will go over my every day flashing step's.

1)backup all USER APPS/DATA with titanium backup, DO NOT BACKUP SYSTEM APP'S (skip this if you did a odin flash to stock)
    2)reboot recovery
3)nandroid (skip this if you did a odin flash to stock)
4)factory reset, wipe system, wipe both cache/dalvik
    5)install rom
    6)boot system
7)*(OPTIONAL) reboot to install a kernel now if needed, always wipe cache/dalvik and fix permissions after installing a kernel
8)setup phone and download titanium backup from the market
9)restore all user apps and data (you will have to put the titanium backup folder that is backed up on your computer back onto your internal storage via usb first)

Every 6 months, backup internal storage to PC and I odin to stock, much like formatting a computer
6 months is actually a long time considering how much I flash, but this device can take a beating let me tell you =P

I DO THIS WITH EVERY ROM I INSTALL, AOSP or TW

    -AOSP screen lock (fade)
-More theme improvements (lots of em, thanks to enewman17 for helping)
-This build is right where I want it, Merry Christmas all
-Glad I could get this to you, power was out for almost 3 days
-Build.prop is no longer branded btw :) Dandroid is a forum name
-no requests, I don't own the device. just be thankful I shipped this ROM

This build was 98% uploaded on the 22nd but I lost power, did not come back on until tonight as Toronto was smashed by a major ice storm. Powerlines down, Tree's down, entire cars frozen in a block of ice. It was a warzone but I'm happy I could get this build to you before Christmas as the ROM theme has seen many improvements in this build :)

I want to take this time to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season and I really hope you enjoy the ROM myself, enewman17 and loserskater have brought to you, The three of us really care about the community and even though I don't own the device anymore, I don't forget my roots

cheers and best wishes, Don't forget to hit that thanks button :)

New update will fix it ;)

Hello everyone, Thank you very much for the support, unfortunately as Idyar mentioned I got injured in a car accident last week and haven't been online to offer support / work on updates. I currently have a serious concussion, a fractured skull and a very difficult time walking, My neck is in a brace so I'm only able to look in one direction so this works quite well with a computer monitor. The next few months will be a true challenge as my life as turned around and now and day to day tasks are much more difficult. I will constantly need to goto the hospital for reevaluation and if there is complications and issues I might as well disappear again for a while, to be honest I'm just thankful to be alive and even typing this right now. My biggest advice to you all is don't always trust a green light, I did and got nailed by someone running a red.

I did some work tonight, made myself a new daily driver for anyone who want's to play with it..

This ROM right here is beast, It's the lightest ROM I have ever released and ships with all the necessary system files and none of the un necessary bloatware, in my opinion it is the closest to AOSP that TW is ever going to get on these forums and the battery life my brother and I are seeing is absolutley ridiculously amazing compared to previous builds, s3rx is in my opinion the best ROM to base my heavy modifications on and I thank loserskater and enewman17 for their support in this thread while I was absent and for their hardwork as my ROM would not be possible without them. They are truly amazing devs

Also, no donations for a while please. Give to your local non profit organizations or sponsor a child. Life is a gift
