I changed the name of the file bootsamsungloop.qmg
, and left it in place without deleting it. The AT&T boot animations (the striped globe and purple swirly thingy) are gone, and the phone boots normally. The purple thingy was cool, but not as cool as the big, bright AT&T screen was ugly, so it's all good.
Not so good. It looks like tinkering with this file interferes with the screen being able to go to sleep. Whether renaming it or deleting it, either method caused the problem to occur. Re-pasting the file back in place fixed it.
