You can via PC Odin but you will get yellow triangle
Your best bet would be to flash JB philz from stock recovery and wipe data system cache preload and then flash eybee's deodexed or stock non rooted via PC Odin

Oh. Ive flashed the safe kernel and then downloaded "N7000XXLSZ N7000OXALSZ" from this thread.

This procedure looks easy enough, and seems like no wipes are required. Should I stick with this or follow your advice? :x

Yes I believe it is a non wipe ROM...but you will get lag if you don't wipe...
It is best for a major upgrade to do the 4 wipes data system cache preloqd and then dalvik and .androidsecure to get a true clean install
Your choice
If your using PC Odin boot into philz recovery on the device...do all wipes...then reboot directly to download mode and flash with PC odin

i'm currently on rooted, JB stock rom with Philz kernel. the increased usb charging speed on SpeedMod is the one i'm most interested in. is it possible to have a standalone mod for it?

I doubt it. The charging rate is hard coded in one of the drivers.
