Connecting SSD drive

Have an external SSD five with a USB 3 connection so I purchased an OTG dongle and connected it. One of those dongles that have an extra USB connector for power, and I connected that to a power brick. But the Note 3 won't recognise it as a mass storage device.
Can someone help me understand this?

try formatting the ssd to fat32

    try formatting the ssd to fat32

    Ahh, excellent point. It's been a while since I formatted it, and now that I think about it I probably did a NTFS format.

    If you want files over 2GB in size use exFAT, otherwise FAT32.
