sounds like he bricked his phone trying to update it and is asking if its possible to fix through jtag flashing.

Take off the battery for 10 seconds and try again.
Do you still get the Samsung logo when you start up?
You are aware that you have to press <VOL-UP>+<HOME>+<POWER> or <VOL-DOWN>+<HOME>+<POWER>? Some people are sometimes confused by <VOL-UP>+<POWER> only.

There is an emergency mode when the bootchain is interrupted in early stage that will trigger booting from external sdcard. It needs to be written with first 128MB (or 256MB) of the eMMC. Maybe there are some images floating around you can test.
