S-ON users who are unlocked can flash unsigned zip files from the bootloader for the partitions they can normally update (i.e., recovery, boot, system) but firmware updates require a locked bootloader and a zip file signed by HTC. Here's a post where scotty85 elaborated on the considerations for flashing zip files from the bootloader, or via the "fastboot flash zip" command, when S-ON.

I'm stuck on step 28 and need some help. I have my phone down to hboot 1.40, still with S-ON though. I'm on step 28 where it tells me to run 1.13 RUU EXE, but I'm having problems with this. The RUU EXE runs for a while, then stops with this error:

ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR

The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone.

Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.

When I first started it, it told me it would go from this version:

2.89.651.2

to

1.13.651.7

I don't know what could be the problem. I would appreciate any assistance in getting 1.13 RUU to flash a bootable ROM to my phone.

This version is extremely outdated. Please see the other thread here for the newest release.

Sorry about that. I'll try the 1.13 RUU linked in that thread and post there If I have other questions.

It's not the RUU that is the problem it's the version of the URT tool that is on this CD. You need to get the new version of that tool there.

If you have the 1.57.5757 hboot, that means that you did the wire trick and you already have s-off. I doubt that this toolkit would work, but even if it does, it's overkill. Your s-off already so all you need to do is put the hboot you want to install (in PG86IMG.zip) on the root of your sdcard and and reboot to the bootloader to flash it.

I did do the wire trick and do have s off. With so much stuff about hboots and s off I wasn't sure that just flashing the right hboot zip wouldnt brick this phone. So I just find the right pmg file and I'm straight?
