Guys, you don't need to remove your battery. It's really very simple. On the android terminal emulator, type su, give it permission, then type reboot download. You can do this for recovery too, su, reboot recovery

(That's really all the advanced power menu is sending to the system anyways.) Or, if your rom has it built in, just reboot, and choose download.

there is an easier (in my opinion) way to do it...just did it an hour ago..worked like a charm

I AM NOT TAKING CREDIT FOR THIS, JUST PASSING IT ALONG

Just flashed cwm touch for T-Mobile. Looks pretty nice. Its available in from rom manager or if you dont wanna pay for it do this

Download the recovery image from here http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager (tmobile Galaxy S2)

Rename it to recovery.img and place it on your sdcard(internal) so it should be at /sdcard/recovery.img

plug phone into computer and get into adb shell from terminal (must have adb working)

then type this: dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22

IF you dont have adb working on your computer you can download terminal emulator from android market and do it from your phone. Same instructions as above.

place recovery.img on sdcard(/sdcard/recovery.img)

open terminal emulator and type: su (allow superuser access if it ask you)

then type: dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22

make sure usb debugging is checked also.

Credit for these instructions belongs to Da_G

That definitely doesn't sound easier than the ops method.

Are you kidding? how about saving your buttons for one.

As a previous member (sorry, forgot who) already said, you don't have to use your vol and pwr buttons on the current CWM. Softkey Home and Menu are up and down, Back is back, and Search is select. CWM has been this way for a while.

I cannot believe people haven't figured that out yet!

Other than activating touch screen does it provide anything useful? For example on 4EXT when you make a backup it labels the backup not only with the date and time but also with the ROM name and ROM version your using. That was VERY useful. Unlike now when you go to restore and you have 10 backups your trying to guess which day and time you made a specific backup that you want to use.

#1. The menu buttons have always worked, that's nothing new or something undiscovered. It even works with the trackball on the G1.

#2. Backups are always sorted by date within the file name. You can always go into SD/ClockworkMod/ and rename the 20120204448 to something like Juggernaut4-Feb-2012.

Don't be so quick to snap at people about something you obviously know nothing about.

#1. Right, and I was responding to someone that said a touchscreen recovery would save your buttons. Hence the notation I (and others) made that you can use your soft keys and save your buttons from being worn out.

#2. Yes, I can go and rename every single back up I make and I back up quite often. I apologize, I guess I got spoiled using 4EXT on my old Sensation which did the naming itself. 4EXT is an amazing recover and the best I have used yet. Don't get me wrong, CWM works great and there is nothing wrong with renaming them, I was only asking if there was more features added to the recovery than just touch capability, hence the 4EXT comparison.

Wasn't snapping at anyone. Was RESPONDING to a post to inform someone that clearly did NOT know you could the soft keys. And yes, I do know what I'm talking about.

Mounting System?

The only problem I have found (at least on my device T989) is I have been unable to mount system in recovery to use ADB commands. If the device is booted up and on ADB mounts and sees the device fine, but in the actual touch recovery 5.8.1.3 it's a no go. Can someone please investigate this and report back? Thanks.

Shouldn't we just buy it for 2 dollars to support Koush? by downloading this you are not supporting his efforts. do the right thing.

Absolutely. Koush has changed the Android world with his recoveries. $2 is really not a big deal to those who own a $500+ phone. Whether you get it free or not, I highly recommend throwing $2 his way. :D

I'm not slamming anyone who chooses not to donate, I'm just saying that dev work takes a ton of time and energy which most of you know. Purchasing an app here and there makes it more worth it for the developers to keep doing what they are doing. We all benefit.

The recovery img is posted on his website for free. http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager All I have I done is made it flashable via ODIN since many people have issues while creating a Odin compatible tar. Koush made it available both ways (img for free / via rom manager for $2) so that people who aren't comfortable using Odin can download it hassle free.

It's irritating that people want to put in their 0.02 cents about how we should support the dev by buying this and making it sound like the Flashable tar is like a "cracked" file. All you guys with your 0.02 cents don't know the circumstances of many members of XDA. For some of us $2 is nothing, but for many its a choice between a meal or a addon. Let's keep our 0.02 cents to ourselves. If you guys have nothing constructive to say, keep your comments to yourself and stop trolling.

Thank you.

Here is a Odin flashable tar file for
Clockworkmod Touch 5.8.1.3 for Tmobile T989 hercules.

Before you guys run and try to flash this via Odin, make sure you read my directions:

    (1) Make sure your phone ISN'T connected to your computer.
    (2) Turn off your phone and remove the battery for a few seconds.
    (3) Then insert battery.
    (4) Hold volume up and down button at the same time and while holding them insert the micro usb into the phone (the other end should be already in the computer's usb port prior to this)
    (5) Open Odin as Admin and select PDA.
    (6) Locate "recovery.tar.md5" (the one you downloaded from above link)
    (7) And finally flash.

    Hope you guys enjoy this.
