Actually, that option is there so that you can remove all user data in the event you need to sell it or give it to someone else. Doing a wipe/reset is a major pain, especially on an unrooted device with no TiBU to restore apps and data. If it happens again I will consider it, but so far it appears to be working fine. Haven't seen NFC started since that one night. I had another phone on the nightstand that may have been why NFC initiated.
Google Nexus 7 32gb Wifi
Samsung Galaxy SII (rooted ICS 4.0.3)
Samsung Captivate (going soon)
HTC Tilt 2 (on bedroom duty)
LG Incite (long gone)
RAZR V3 (my 1st net-enabled phone)

NFS does *not* drain battery, unless you scan a tag, etc..
in other words, if its enabled, and but you dont use it, there is not battery used.

Like I said, when I discovered this latest rundown and looked at the batt stats, NFC service was responsible for 60% of the usage. The phone was simply sitting on my nightstand after reading a Play Books book, so I have no idea what I might have done to turn NFC services on or why my task killer did not kill it while it sat idle all night. My only guess is that the proximity of another smartphone or TV remote set it off, but I don't really know. I moved both items and it hasn't happened again since.
