Eek. I didn't mean to make such a big fight happen. But Efuse this is why I asked you not to post like that. Whether you meant it in a mean way or not it sounded mean. Your reply did too but whatever. I have more posts than you! ha ha

So anyway, yes, please let's just stop this bickering and have a group hug, no homo.

Back to the thread:

I could be wrong, and maybe I'm mixing threads in my brain, but I thought root method wasn't being released until release date, at the earliest.

Toast has already done so much for us, he really owes us nothing. He could show up at my house with something taped up in trash bags, and two shovels....I'd be digging, no questions asked....

I know the grack group was going to release on the 4th but I don't know if Toast said definitely or not. regardless, I think June 4th will be our new independence day lol

No.

Then allows us to tell you to GTFO.

I don't think I will allow you, no.

yeah dude honestly the way you asked, sounded kinda dickish, the guy doesn't owe you anything, he's working on it and not demanding we pay which i know a lot of people that would if they had found root. so just give him some time, it'll be out when it's out . nuff said.

While I will admit the method I asked could have been nicer (and i was going to edit to be, before anyone replied, but edit is disabled for new users) the question was valid. There has been a ton of lying in the android community lately. The Jake Day situation, etc. Toast has provided nothing to prove that his root is real (except an easily-faked video) and refuses to provide any release schedule. This makes me suspicious.

if you dont need instructions then you have no reason being in this thread unless you have accomplished full root yourself?

if not then kindly see your way up to the "X" in the top right corner of the screen

+1

Or you can also do Alt+F4. :)

Seriously though, not just Toast but nearly all Devs do this work graciously on their own time to make our lives easier and our phones better. You're not going to get anywhere sounding like a d-bag. Or at least not far. Learn to be patient, and have a good time. If you can put both those things together, I promise your experience here at XDA will be an enjoyable one. Otherwise, you're going to get "flammed" all day long.

Also, sorry for the double post, but you should really think out the ramifications of your tone before posting. If you would have done 5 minutes of research looking at Toast's other posts in the Hero section, you'd see his name all over stuff, including the custom overclocking kernel for the Hero. It really chaps my ass when people act like this. And no, I don't suck up or kiss ass, I am just extremely grateful for those that give their time to better the cause. Wasn't the frigging video enough for you?!?

I don't know what phone you had before but the Hero people know just what Toast has done and he has nothing to prove to anyone. He puts out some of the best stuff around. People are getting upset with you because we already lost a really good Dev from the Hero side earlier this year from people acting dumb and not wanting to wait. The phone is not out to the masses yet and that is most likely why it is not out yet.

That being said I am not trying to keep this fighting up just trying to help shed some light on this. I know there are alot of people that come from different phones and don't know what others have done in the past. So try and be patient with them.

Can everyone please stop *****ing and flaming? Who gives a **** if he asked for a release schedule? We're all here to get the Evo root, so let's focus on that and not on attacking others. Done and DONE.

I feel ya, man. I prefer regular updates as well. [pacifist's philosophy] Skepticism is a defense mechanism that combats the woes of unfulfilled expectation. Faith on the other hand is a funny quality, and often misunderstood. Many see it as blind, however TRUE faith MUST be based on something..otherwise its not faith it's being gullible. [/philosohy]

That being said, for those of us who have CDMA Heros...our TRUE faith lies in toast n co (that includes maejrep, the guy who posted the vid [not toast]) as they have proven their skill time n time again! Whether you believe is your choice. Only time and concrete evidence will replace your doubt.

p.s. bear in mind that these guys have lives as well so they may not respond as quickly as we like. Also they may be working on it as we bicker hoping to provide a positive update for us.

Being able to make random kernels and being able to root a phone are two very different things.

uhg... does every good thing have to end up into a argument? i mean really how does one fake a EVO running 2.2 aosp? its not like the phone is on table never moving. its being moved around with maejrep interacting and all. i dont expect anyone to believe us for sure without proof. but i think the video says enough that engadget posted it along with 10 othr highly respected tech sites. i think if it were a fake u wouldve heard it from them by now. but whatever, itll be released when im done. sorry

Thanks toast. As I'm sure you've noticed, most of us are anxiously, patiently, and supportively awaiting your results.

Best of luck! Let us know if we can be assistive.

Good point Toast. How's it coming btw? All we need is a simple good or bad lol No need to go into details and take your time away.

great ;) yeah flipz just got back into town last night. hes working on a winblows rooter to help the noobies out. the linux setup is ready to go. i was just waiting to here back from maejrep about the recovery. ot was a holiday weekend so we were all kinda busy. anyhow before friday for sure.i hope tonight or tomorrow. i dont have the device so its a little stressing trying to hook it up and wait for testing to return.

as maejrep posted, the cam in the Froyo build is a no go at the moment. havent had time to play with it much. also mms is most likely a issue too. so for high hopes of fully functional froyo everyone can give that up for the moment. also as mentioned before no wimax in froyo as of yet either. lol i think that be the three main reasons one would want an EVO eh?! lol anyhow in time im sure well be good. it was actually just a port, just to see it in action EVO. ill release it also so others can tinker.

thats pretty much it guys. sorry its taken so long. the good news is i hear that the devices released on the 4th are gonna run the same build as the I/O devices. so that brings high hopes for sure. but we wont knoww for sure until those devices hit the shelves. anyhow thanx for the support and hating :p na but please guys keep it clean :D

HOW TO ROOT YOUR HTC EVO

DO NOT USE A RUU FROM SPRINT IF U WANNA MAINTAIN ROOT. WAIT FOR ME OR SOMEONE HERE TO MAKE A ROOT UPDATE.ZIP.

Major thanx for those who helped:

keishou (for the rooted build. without it none of this would be possible)
maejrep (for testing and modding a recovery for the EVO)
    Flipz (for hosting the files)
Paul (for his recovery work on the desire and legend)
Amon_RA (for his recovery source on github)

WHAT THIS ROOT METHOD WILL DO:

    - wipe all of your data so brace for that. backup or what not
    - Allow you to flash custom roms
    - Boot into a custom recovery
    - Write to system, boot and recovery partitions through recovery

WHAT THIS ROOT METHOD SADLY WONT ENABLE YOU TO DO:

    - Write to system or recovery while in android
    - Flash a custom recovery that can be booted into by holding vol down and powering on

    THINGS YOU WILL NEED:

    download files below:

    - PC36IMG.zip

    - evorecovery

    INSTUCTIONS FOR ROOTING:

    - Put the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard

    Code:
    adb push PC36IMG.zip /sdcard

    - Power off the phone
    - Hold volume down while powering the phone on. continue to hold volume down until you see the WHITE bootloader screen.
    - After a few seconds it will begin to checking for files, and find PC36IMG.zip. while its doing this it will show a blue progress bar while its checking. (this takes 30 - 60 seconds to finish)
    - It will then list all the images in the zip and ask you if want to flash. SAY YES
    - When its finished it will ask you if you would like to reboot. AGAIN... SAY YES
    - At this point it will boot into a rooted rom.
    - YOU ARE NOW ROOT!!!
    - rename the PC36IMG.zip on your sdcard:
    - plug your phone into a usb port on your desktop and do:

    Code:
    adb shell mv /sdcard/PC36IMG.zip /sdcard/root-PC36IMG.zip

    RECOVERY INSTRUCTIONS:

    - Extract the evorecovery.zip to your desktop
    - plug your phone into a usb port on your desktop
    - In a shell:

    Code:
    adb reboot recovery

    - this will reboot your EVO into recovery mode. at this point turn your attention to the directory u extracted the evorecovery.zip to.

    Code:
For Windows XP ~~> Run recovery-windows.bat
For Vista and Windows 7 do it as Admin

    - in a shell do:

    Code:
    For Linux ~~> ./recovery-linux.sh

    - at this point turn your attention to the phone and navigate to create a Nandriod Backup. you can now flash custom roms, write, and make changes to system.

    - to flash a custom rom put the rom on the root of your sdcard. wipe data, dalvic cache and chose the option to flash update.zip from sdcard.

    RECOVERY NAVIGATION:

    -
    Code:
Volume up/down moves through the list and Power selects.

    RECOVERY SOURCE:

    Code:
    git clone git://github.com/jhansche/amonra_bootable_recovery.git
    git checkout supersonic

Once you have finished and rooted your device. please flash another rooted rom from the forum. Flipz has made a root build of the rom that came on the device. it can be found HERE. you will need to wipe data and dalvic cache before flashing this. And again because i cant stress it enough... DO NOT accept a OTA update from Sprint or use a RUU, or u risk lossing root forever, and ever :p

HOW TO RETURN BACK TO STOCK BUILD:

-Easy peasy- run the RUU in the first post of this thread. this is the only RUU that after flashing, you will still be able to root using this method. link below:

    ROOT SAFE STOCK RUU

Can you remove apps from Android mode using root explorer? or do you have to remove them in the recovery using ADB?
