This may be an issue with the ROM I'm using or the way that Root Explorer interacts with it. I'm not sure. It puts the file there as 0000 permissions which isn't helpful.

To not affect the speed and duration of your boot-up you will find it better to keep animations to 10Mb or smaller.

In my testing with various encodings, I've found that optimizing images to minimize the CPU power needed to decode them makes it boot faster (that is, no interlace no additional encoding, simplified palette, etc.). I'm currently booting with a 80 MB boot sequence that boots quite fast (sorry, it contains copyrighted features and I don't think I can share it but booting to a Simpsons opening followed by an Itchy & Scratchy loop on their TV set is quite nice). I do need to tweak the Memtest boot animation so that its image files are more optimized.

If you wish to publish it on XDA it will have to be 8 Mb or smaller (XDA's upload size limitation for "zip" files is 8 Mb)

well, I guess I'll have to host it elsewhere. Good thing Box gave me 50 GB!

To start getting the size down you should use JPG's not PNG's.

JPEGs use more processing power to decode/display (DCTs and all). I haven't tested to see if they run slower on the A500 boot but I would guess that they do.

I've still got a bit of work to do. Took a break to make an animation just for me . If you want to see it as-is, send a PM or hit me up on IRC, I can give you the link.
Not sure what you mean by "ICS ready". It's two 'loops', the first plays once and the second loops until it is done booting (the flashing red at the end with all errors shown). I have it running on my tablet with JB but that shouldn't matter, I don't think.
