I9505XXUFNB8 (v2 has sorted most of the I9505XXUFN firmware )

Confirmed working:
i9506XXUBNA2

I9500

This won't work on I9500, because of different chipset.

FAQ

Q Does this root trigger Knox?
A Nope, Knox stays 0x0.

Q Does this reset Knox if I already have 0x1?
A Nope. It is still not possible.

Q: Do you have a step-by-step guide how to get this work?
A: Read the OP in the original thread and read the video guide here

Q: Install SuperSU, fails to update binary.
A: check you have root using root checker app.
SuperSU on google play store is out dated and will not work.

Not working for me on either I9505XXUFNB8 or I9505XXUFNB9 for some reason. It just reboots, I get no messages about installing anything.

I got root , but like the first poster when i installed SuperSU, says binary needs to be updated, I dont have any recovery installed, the phone then rebooted by itself , I uninstalled SuperSU , but i still have root access according to the app , but , when i download a program such as Titanium Backup , it gave me errors.

Phone works well , now im sad, and I wish I didnt root it

Successfully rooted. Downloaded SuperUser APK 3.3 and installed. All apps that needed SU/root works.

Knox still 0x0

Note: Reading the original thread, i9505 may need to have the E5 firmware to work.

Playstore version doesn't update binaries, go to chainfire website

Knox shows 0x0 but I can't get rid of the unlocked icon when phone boots.

Right on the money man! I flashed i9505XXUGNE5 from I9505XXUFNB8 and towelroot installed no problem! Thanks!

Edit: A couple of annoying things on this firmware, one word is always in german on "Storage" and the option to set screen lock to "none" VANISHED

Hi,

Does anyone know if I can downgrade i9505 from NE5 to NC4 without tripping knox?

I have a Black Edition and only installed NE5 to test this rooting method (it worked), but i would like to know if I want to go back to black edition version knox will not be triggered.

You can downgrade to NC4 from NE5 without tripping knox.

Between, I have successfully rooted my device using this method...

1. Remove KNOX 2.0 with Root Explorer:

I would like to be 100% sure of what you are saying. I have a i9505 with XXUFNC4 firmware, the towelroot exploit doesn't work.

But if I upgrade to XXUGNE5 german firmware with Kies (or Odin), apply the towelroot exploit, and then downgrade to my actual XXUFNC4 fwm, you can confirm that normally my phone will stay rooted and still working perfectly ?

You can safely downgrade to XXUFNC4 from XXUGNE5 firmware without tripping Knox. But you will loose the root.

AFAIK, this exploit doesn't work on Exynos SoC, only Qualcomm, but you should verify elsewhere...
