Does anyone know if it is safe to remove some of the stock LG stuff, and these other apps? Like Social+, Software Update, all the video apps (editor, player, video clip, video wiz), streaming player, music fx, music, media home, LG set up wizard, stock calender, stock alarm clock? I replace my calendar, alarm, music and video player with 3rd party apps that I have grown to love, sup the stock stuff just sits there. It was no problem to do this on my Galaxy Nexus, but it also did not have a UX overlay.

Iv removed some of the video stuff then the yahoo apps, news, finance not, 100% on the others

PROBLEMS ROOTING FOR 2nd TIME

So I managed to softbrick my device but managed to unbrick. My data is all still here which is cool but now I am unable to root my device again using bin4ry's method But the shell freezes after i select restore on my device. Should i wipe data via wipe.bat script? Pls help

No sir I just stopped at step 7 in potatohead's unbrick guide because my phone booted up fine. I let it settle for a bit then tried to rott but didn't work so now I can't unlock my bootloader again.

EDIT: ok i dont know how but my phone is in "safe mode" which is printed transparently in the bottom left conner of screen. how do i get out of safe mode?

EDIT2: ok i rebooted and booted out of safemode. fyi safemode can be entered by power off device then hold vol up, vol down, and power buttons at the same time but i see no use though

still freaking unable to root this thing. worked the first time i rooted before i softbricked of course. would maybe flashing stock firmware help? could it be the KDZ file i downloaded?

yea afaik the KDZ should work as long as you didn't accept the OTA update, if you did you are in the same boat as these gentlemen:

so couldn`t i just flash the stock firmware in the developement section which is dated before this stupid new update? do you think this will allow me to downgrade safely and then root the phone or like your OP says am I permanently done rooting, unlocking bootloader, flashing custom roms, clockworkmod or touch recoveries? i live out the stock experience for the rest of my contract or at least a year and a half before i am able to buy new phone?
damn i knew i should of stuck with my sony xperia play. everything was sooo simple. on this i dont even understand exactly how to flash a firmware. i aint even know what download mode was before i got this phone. what the hell does KDZ stand for? ofcourse everybody answer would be GOOGLE IT!

if someone still has the pre update kdz you might be able to use that to downgrade, unless the update you applied somehow disables downgrading

I bought an unlocked E971 and I use it with Telus, also I've installed the OTA update. I'm curious to know if it's possible to crossflash a Telus stock ROM so that I can get on Telus LTE, as right now I'm stuck with HSPA.

    Alright so the point of this thread is to help people with their LG Optimus G for Rogers Wireless in Canada, also known simply as E971
    Here are the official specs:

    from LG:

    The main difference from this phone and the E973 version is the 700/2600mhz LTE frequency for Rogers as opposed to 700/1700 for Bell/Telus/Sasktel
    The 2600MHz LTE spectrum (2x20MHz band) is the frequency used for LTE that has the most bandwidth available making it the fastest LTE band. Typical download speeds experienced will range from 12 Mbps up to 40Mbps. -from the Roger's site

    This means that LTE will not work with other LTE such as BELL or TELUS unless they roll out a 700/2600mhz network, Fido piggy backs on Rogers and *should* work

    Here are some of the more important threads to have your phone rooted and have a unlocked bootloader, up to know i do not know of any custom roms available for the E971

    If you want to keep your root and unlocked Bootloader do not update to the latest OTA (E97110E_00), you will lose root permanatly and Bin4ry's methode will not work anymore the previous version is linked at the 2nd post (E97110D_00)

    to disable the OTA app:
    "Disable" via Settings > Apps > All > Software Update > Tap Disable.
    or freeze with Titanium Backup "Software Update 3.1.0"

    Removing carrierware (only do if you have v0.5+ of FreeGee and Root or else you'll get a the security error bootloop)
    You'll also receive the Security error if you tinker with the Google Apps that come with this phone (ex, google movies, google books, etc)
    remove or delete the .apk , freezing with Titanium works as well

    This makes me even MORE glad I bought an E970 instead of the E971. The Rogers phone doesn't even support both THEIR OWN FREQUENCIES, because the AWS band would mean the phone could easily be used on Telus or Bell. So the E971 doesn't actually get better LTE coverage than Galaxy S2s or iPhone5s by offering both bands Rogers supports.

    The E971 supports 2600 and 700, 700 being the main frequency for AT&T in the US which is shared with the E970 but not supported by ANY carrier in Canada until after the 700mhz spectrum auction which isn't for another YEAR. But with an E970 on Rogers I still get the AWS band , and it is ALSO usable on Bell or Telus!

    So overall, the AT&T phone gives just as good coverage out of the box, and better options for changing carriers and roaming than either regular Canadian model.
