Backup to Gmail is perfect for backing up sms, mms and call logs.
Also perfect for restoring sms and call log.
Works on any Android device and backups can be viewed from your Gmail app or viewed and even printed off from a desktop pc.
Nothing to see here

The best app for this and any backup is Titanium backup Pro version You almost can make a backup of anything !

You can download the add on for it and your can backup to drop box. But otherwise, yes you would have to pull the file from the SD card and put it on the new SD/phone storage
