I would have did that if my phone hadn't rebooted unexpectedly and it continued to after that.

That's weird that you had it start boot looping. What were you doing when it started doing that? Did you manually wipe system, data and both caches?

You can try nandroid browser from market to look into the backup for those text messages or just restore to that rom then use an sms backup to save them.

It started boot looping after I change the lockscreen wallpaper in the tweaks menu...which I found to be very weird also because I've changed it before and it had never happened.

I tried to restore the rom but still boot loops I will give that nandroid backup a try to see if I can retrieve my sister's messages. I have elginsk8r ICS on her phone for now but she's not really happy because she's not able to play some of her games, plus she says it really laggy, and problems with the google store. I don't know what else to try on her phone

You can make a backup of current ROM, then restore the one with messages, backup them online with SMS Backup + in Play Store, and then you can restore them to any ROM you have.

As for ICS you should try either Zipsnet or Shot of Awesomeness, latest zipsnet update broke some games, so try Awesomeness

I'm finding that blackwings aokp rom to work best right now. Only thing is that market is not working properly for 4.0.4 at the moment.
