Default CM7.1 - During charge restarted, now stuck trying to boot

I have a captivate with CM 7.1 on it. I've been having random issues with it for a while now relating to it restarting or just shutting off. Last night while charging the phone it restarted and is stuck trying to boot. I was dumb enough not to have done any backups for quite a while so I'm wondering if there is any possibility of getting the phone to boot, at least long enough to back up all my apps and stuff. I should mention that I have searched for a few hours now to see if I can fix this without completely wiping and reloading and haven't found anything. This is my first time posting so if I didn't give enough info or this is better placed in another thread let me know and I'm sorry ahead of time.

Where is it stuck trying to boot? Sometimes doing an update can fix some problems.

At the CyanogenMod 7 loading screen with the rotating arrow. I'm guessing you are referring to an OS update? Also, would it be wise to move this post back to the Captivate Q&A section so that I get more/quicker responses?

The posting is your call. Well if you're stuck at that screen, it often can mean that /datadata is full. Have you received any low space errors? Yes, I am suggesting that you update to a newer version like the CM7.3 RC or whatever there is now.

I'll see if I can find something to delete from there without making it worse I had not been receiving low space errors. I have had random issues for a long time (even before I used CM7), but I did recently install a task killer that kills processes every time screen is turned off. I'm still quite new to this stuff, but will I keep all my data if I upgrade to 7.3?

Yes, it doesn't delete anything.

Get rid of the task killer for starters. They are not needed for Android at all, slow performance, and make your battery life worse.

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Note II i317, AT&T
Current ROM: Stock, rooted with CF-Auto-Root
Kernel: Stock

My OS: Linux Mint 14 (Nadia)

Support Heimdall!
"Just use Odin" is not the right answer.

At this point, I can't get rid of the task killers (at least I don't know how) since I can't boot. I also never got a notification that /datadata was out of space but I was getting a massive amount of FC's. Anyone have an ideas on how to get this thing to boot? As suggested earlier I did try to update to CM 7.2.0 RC2, but I was still unable to boot.

Sounds like low space. You could try a datafix script (thread by wendigogo in the i9000 section)

I ended up just updating to CM9. The phone is working great, even though I found out it was one of the phones that was an early release -any IMEI # lower than 5394- and therefor had a bunch of shutdown issues (post about it is here).
