Default S-on & s-off device

What is the exwct meaning and significance of S-OF AND S-OFF device
I frequently came to read this terms so i wanna know what exectly it is...plz help

S-ON is pretty much a locked bootloader. Some things are restricted.y.
S-OFF means you have complete control of the phone. Security off. Do whatever you want from whatever mode you want.

S-OFF means "security off" and that the NAND partition of the device is unlocked and writable to. With S-OFF you could easily flash kernels and recoveries directly on phone without a PC.
S-ON restricts partitions and thus prevents us from writing to e.g. boot partition. You are always able write boot with an unlocked bootloader and a PC if you want.
No S-OFF for One X at the moment.
