I remembered reading Hashcode's blogs about JB on the D3, but he never seemed to get it working right, and then the updates stopped.
I tried using the Minimoto ROM, and have to admit that it's pretty quick in response time. I run my phone stripped down anyway, so this ROM basically did everything I wanted. I was hoping to run JB, but I have a Xoom that has it (not rooted, hooray), so I'll count my blessings. I love the features of Pacman, but it's just too slow for now. I guess if the kernel is updated in the future, I'll jump back on.
Thanks for the informative response, though. It's appreciated.
I finally jumped on the bandwagon with slapping different ROMs on the phone; this was the first.
Not sure why, and I love all the options, but this thing is really slow out of the box. It takes anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes to just load something like Hangouts. Not sure why. Pressing the Home button while in a program also takes about 20-30 seconds to actually go to the home screen. Loading the settings menu requires about 40-60 seconds to actually do something. Sometimes it crashes.
Not sure what (if) I'm doing incorrectly here, as the last time I played with ROMs was back when Froyo was the thing to have, and that was on an Eris, so I'm a little (ie: quite a lot) out of touch here.
I tried a different launcher (Nemus) to help with speed, and it is certainly faster than Trebuchet. I also noticed my RAM is pretty consistently filled up to max, with may 20-30 MB left, with nothing showing as running. Maybe a bum install?
I would say my overall question is; should it really be this slow and unresponsive, even compared to a bloated stock ROM (which is miles faster), or are some settings just not working? Any tips would be appreciated on this. I did manage to put the overclocking mode into "performance" and have the app manager keep about 50 MB of RAM clear...seems to help with the speed, but not the occasional program crash. Go figure.
Overall I like the look, just not the speed.
Yeah I know that feel, I finally semi retired my Droid 3 ass the keyboard was starting to fail, dam shame really liked that phone as it was my first android device. Cant really blame anyone for the lack of new stuff on this device maybe Motorola themselves for there crazy release schedule the Droid 4 should have been the Droid 3 and the X2 Bionic and Razr were all released within 3/4 of a year of each other. I feel like Hashcode has done a great job at getting us Cyanogenmod on our device and its really a lack of ram that holds the 3 back ( I just switched to the Bionic and the extra half gig is quite the improvement) last I was on my Droid 3 my best recommendation is to have the performance governor set to on when the screen is on as that had helped me quite a bit. My contract is up and i'm just dying to know if Motorola has plans to release the droid 5 anytime soon
