Do you have the DownloadUI.apk? If try the CWM pacakge attacthed. You should get the functionality back. The UI was removed to save on bloat. But it can cause a pain in the arse if a download gets stuck. You can force the apps shut to sort it but I prefer the UI. Give it a go. By installing them you get resilience over numerous flashes.
I extracted the two apk's and install them when ever I do a complete re-install. The CWM should be ok, I just hate having to reboot flash, reboot flash etc

After my first flash it was like that but i have an extra battery( which i had completely drained and charged to the full) and with that i got what i reported earlier today. Final stats for this battery is it lasted 23 and half hrs of medium - heavy usage ( had 2 hrs music, 2 hrs display, 40 min of 3G calls with bluetooth on, lots of Wifi, downloaded 3 120 MB files) . Not bad i would say.

Boo hoo! I have enhanced email syncing my mail. It has the security bypass. Woke up this morning, 34% in 5 hrs. Me sad. I need my mail for work!

It`s hard for me to get an idea of how the battery is doing for ya`s on GB loaders...maybe a little bit more information, like how many apps you got, whats synced, active widgets on home screen, maybe a screen of the battery stats near the end.
I now everyone uses there phones differently but at least this way we might have a little bit of a better understanding of it,

Well the difference to my mind is in the deep sleep and idle drain, which is as good as froyo 7.2, basically zilch drain compared to how it had been, as always what you get from your phone in use depends on how you set it up/use it, the only way to find our is try it and see if it is better for you, its a very easy change over to platypus, and I hate to say it, but far more stable than glitch was for me,

'till now, I'm not very impressed with the battery life but I haven't done any charging cycles so it's too early to say anything.
90%-40% in 10 hours, 8hours of this time I was sleeping. The rest 2 hours medium usage, a lil bit titanium, a lil bit wifi and edge, mails checking.

Install
- Copy Insanity ROM to internal SD Card
- Reboot into Recovery Mode
- Flash insanity via CWM
- Reboot
If you are coming from a STOCK ROM, only have 2e recovery or have any issues please see the EZbase Odin ROM

Easy Peasy Installation for Insanity cm31 and higher,
Case 1:
Currently on any Samsung 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 ROMs (stock or custom, you already have Gingerbread Bootloader (GBL))
• Enter CWM recovery (If you are on stock Samsung, install speedmod or another kernel which gives you this).
• Wipe data/factory reset
• Go to mounts and storage, format system , go back.
• Go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache.
• Go to Install zip file, select zip file, select Insanity cmxx.zip and Install insanity.
• Reboot to system.
• Flash another kernel using nitrality if you need, gapss.
Case 2:
Currently on 2.1 or 2.2 samsung roms (stock or custom)
• If you don’t have CWM recovery, install a kernel for 2.1 or 2.2 which gives you that.
• Download Odin from here if you don't have odin already and GingerBread Bootloaders (GBL).
• Load GBL in PDA, click on bootloader update and reset time. Nothing else.
• Once odin says pass with a green bar, pull battery.
• Enter CWM recovery, wipe data/factory reset.
• Go to mounts and storage, format system , go back.
• Go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache.
• Go to Install zip file, select zip file, select Insanity cmxx.zip and Install insanity.
• Reboot to system.
• Flash another kernel using nitrality if you need, gapss.
Case 3:

• Enter CWM recovery, wipe cache.
• Go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache.
• Go to Install zip file, select zip file, select Insanity cmxx.zip and Install insanity.

• Flash another kernel using nitrality if you need, gapss.
Case 4:
Currently on Cm7/Insanity 31 and older/MIUI with GBL
• Enter CWM recovery
• Wipe Cache (can skip this if you are on insanity, do it later if you have issues).
• Go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache ( can skip this if you are on insanity, do it later if you have issues).
• Go to Install zip file, select zip file, select Insanity cmxx.zip and Install insanity.
• Reboot to system.
• Flash another kernel using nitrality if you need, gapss.
If you still manage to screw up, time to give up on flashing as you can’t follow simple instructions.
