FROM THE MODERATORS•••PLEASE READ POST ALL ICS INFO HERE ONLY

I haven't seen this article posted. I looked, searched... So apology if I missed it.

http://www.bgr.com/2012/02/10/ice-c...samsung-galaxy-s-ii-galaxy-note-on-march-1st/

An Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note is slated for a March 1st release, according to mobile industry insider Eldar Murtazin. Murtazin posted a tweet claiming the official update would roll out next month, though availability will vary depending on country and carrier. He also said that the Android 4.0 update will be made available over the air or using Samsung’s Kies software. Samsung previously announced that an Android 4.0 upgrade would be coming to the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Note, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

This locking threads business is rubbish.
We can't discuss the merits or lack thereof of new information. Any discussions we do have are going to get lost due to other new streams of information muddying the time lines.

I request that we don't lock threads, keep a central thread of news and info... But let individual threads with new info keep popping up...

This is the reason this thread was created. New threads were popping up all the time. Keeping a eye out for the latest news started getting difficult.

Some of them completely useless. This thread should tie them all together, you are still free to discuss the upcoming ICS, just do it in this thread.

This has been discussed between the moderation team, its going to stay the way it is. As we believe it will help the majority of users.

Take it easy

You miss the point completely.

When we could create and discuss new threads they stayed afloat based ENTIRELY on merit.

If it was a rubbish news source, half a dozen people posted so and the thread died and went away.

With this system we mess up one thread with BS discussions on rubbish and good news sources, you're forcing a spammy thread.

worse yet if in one week we get three poor news sources and one good one its going to be bloody hell trying to have a decent discussion on the decent news article because the three bad ones will be generating more noise than the good one in the same thread.

It boggles the mind that you guys think this is a good idea.

Mod Edit: Removed Foul language

I think you miss the point.

We have to keep everything in check here at XDA. It becomes a nightmare when people post useless posts over and over. It just makes it difficult for the good users to find the info they want.

What is the point in having threads turn into a flame war just because there mad ICS has not arrived. It will get here when its ready! Having endless discussions about it is not going to speed the process up.

You moaning is not going to change the decision, as i explained its a decision made by the moderating team!

If you have some valid information to add to this post, then please do.

Take it easy!

What is there to discuss? There is no specific date given and no country has yet gotten ICS for Galaxy Note, so all you have is hand-waving in the Q1@2012 direction. Hardly anything interesting to say about that, with that little information all you can do is guess. Besides, everything worth saying about it has been already said.

Facts:
ICS will come.
All "leaks" and tips point at the Q1 timeframe.
No specific date.
Not all countries will get it at the same time.

Nothing else. That's that. Hell, we don't even have a confirmation of whether it'll get TouchWiz or not.

GNote update to ICs when officially released without loosing CWM and root

The solution\instructions on how we, who are rooted and have updated ourselves to stock roms (up to LA6), will be able maintian root, maybe without a wipe ICS rom would be great to "hear" about at this point.

I for one w/b keeping an eye on Dr.Ketan's Stock ROM thread, top of the development area.

Enough, Last warning! The decision has been made!

You really cant take a hint, take a look at the post after my last one, maybe you will understand that!

This thread is about the upcoming ICS release. From now on all negative non related posts in this thread will be deleted.

And if you dont know what a swear word is, then we really do have a issue:confused:

Keep it on topic....

i'm with the moderating team on this one. it becomes a nightmare when a lot of rubbish thread sprouts every now and then. tidying up, locking and deleting irrelevant thread is quite a chore, really. i should know... used to moderate a forum with approx 300K members :)

and members need not worry about the 3 bad issues muddying the thread against the 1 good, valid point. the moderators are here to sweep after everybody's mess, if warranted.

keep up the good work, mods/admins! :)

I for one find it a lot easier to just come to this thread and aee if there is any update on ICS release date.

I am happy that I don't have to scour through the entire section just to find useless/duplicate information/threads.

Thanks mod team!

So far all the rom that come up at sammobile is for 2.3.6 for all the carrier..
Still no sign of any ICS leak.. Maybe samsung want to clear all the carrier to 2.3.6 before starting on ICS..
still waiting and will update if ICS coming..

Hell, we don't even have a confirmation of whether it'll get TouchWiz or not.
Well, we do have all of the leaked SGSII roms with touchwiz. I hardly see why the Note wouldn't have it (not that I wouldn't perfer Vanilla ICS or at least the ability to the get Vanilla look using TWlauncher.)

Am I alone in thinking that a lot of folks who hate on TW do so because of the 'theme' of it all? The launcher itself lags REALLY rarely on me, and I get great battery life, etc...

This is purely conjecture, but hey so is everything else including the "news" based on one guys tweet..
Someone proven to be wrong before..

The Note is Samsungs current flagship device.
there's been some bad press about the ICS leaks for the SGSII
Samsung don't want bad press associated with the Note name as its being launched (stupidly imo) with the same branding in the US.

ergo we won't see any early leaks until the Note is properly out everywhere in the US.

again this is conjecture..

Oh, come on, this is a training school for girls who want to act victims in horror films not some online mobile phone forum so let them have their moments.
I think we should encourage them... For all those spoiled mummy's boys/girls who are whining because Santa didn't bring them gold plated bike they wanted...

I would like to take a moment to encourage you two to keep your opinions to yourself. There is a difference between disagreeing with someone and insulting them. Your posts are childish and do not contribute to this thread in any way.

The fact that we can flash custom ICS is NOT a solution in my book, as every kernel so far besides DAFUQ has been based on i9220 leaks, and has the risk of damaging the emmc before and after flashing.

We've gone from first quarter to early second quarter, to mid-to-late second quarter. At least we have official CM9 support now.

The only real thing that I would accept from Samsung is to start releasing source, going down the Sony route. If they released source for their updates, that would provide some really excellent development for our phones, and would extend their lifespan quite a bit.

I really wasn't bothered by all of this until it started to become really clear that they were just wasting as much of the 18-month cycle as possible and/or de- prioritizing N7000 development in favor of their S3 or whatever.

We will vote with our money.
