Switching to a T-Mobile SIM did the trick for me in Chicago on my N7000. But now I'm getting dropped calls, but I haven't called straight talk yet to see what they can do.
I have that exact same issue on AT&T. I'm using jb PA.

It's a known issue with ST, especial at&t ST. The best bet is to try TM ST.
