Are there any external battery USB chargers that adhere to charging standard?
The complete title of this post should be "Are there any external battery USB chargers that adhere to charging standard on all ports?" but that would not fit.
In the past, if you used an iPhone or iPad compatible charger with a Samsung phone, it would cause a wakelock which would persist after the phone was unplugged. The VBus wakelock would drain about 10% battery per hour in addition to any other activities. Plus, the charging current would be limited to 500ma. This was due to Apple not adhering to the USB charging standard. Most manufacturers of USB chargers wanted to be Apple compatible so ignored the standard so they could sell their chargers for iPhones and iPads, and said the chargers were also compatible with all other USB charging devices, but damned all other devices to slow charging and, in addition, the Samsung owners to poor battery life. I wonder how many Samsung phone users thought their phone had poor battery life merely due to using an iPhone charger?
You can avoid this by using a USB charging cable, which is one where two pins are bridged to adhere to the USB charging standard if the charger does not. But this is a hassle since the cable can only be used for charging, not data transfer. And if you screw up and use this cable on a PC or laptop to charge your phone, you can damage the USB port if it is not regulated.
This was a problem when I owned a Skyrocket. I have now had a Note II for a few months and have not thought about it in a while since I banished all Apple devices and Apple compatible chargers from my home. I am currently in the market for an external battery pack. I see that some of them have multiple ports - a non-standard port for Apple devices and another that adheres to USB charging standards so can be used for Android and any other devices. I would rather have a battery pack where all the ports adhered to the standard so they could all be used. Are there any like this available for sale?
