If we can't hide at least one of those damn black bars they can keep 4.2. Can't stand wasting screen real estate like that.

Noob here, but other than the obvious 4.2.... Notifications.

Seems like they are in an oddly better place. Not sure if that's a stock option, ROM sweetness.

Question... Im showing an sdcard0 and an sdcard1, along with Removable which is obviously my sandisk. I thought I saw a blurb about this being due to a CM10 installation at one point, but cant find it anywhere. Is this normal? Doesnt seem to be as there is like data in both spots. If not normal, can i just root delete the sdcard1 folder?

I was wondering about that too! Noticed today that I have identical data under /sdcard and /storage/sdcard0. /storage/sdcard1 is an empty directory.
Some apps seem to be using /sdcard as default (saving data, automatic backups) others /storage/sdcard0.
And naturally then there is /removable/micorsd, so all of the above are internal storage.
Can someone enlighten me?

Bern,
All these directories point to the same physical location on your internal storage. I forget why, but I think it has something to do with the way Android references files.
/data/media
/sdcard
/storage/sdcard0

4.2 changes the location of /data/media to /data/media/0 and /sdcard to /sdcard/0 because of multi-user support.Essentially, I think everything gets moved to /***/0 in 4.2 when compared to 4.1.x
Hope this helps!

Sorry for the stupid question, but what do you mean by rom2sd? (Dalvik cache relocated to microSD, if i may guess?)

I didn't want to overwrite my existing CROMI 3.4, so I installed stock 10.4.4.25 on an additional microSD partition and ran the 4.2 update on that. It's just another modification to the kernel ramdisk in addition to Data2SD. It's much easier for ROM development if you can move the card to the PC and do operations on the system like backup, deodexing, etc. there.

Dual-booting with the old kernel failed due to SurfaceFlinger (the Android GUI compositor) failing to start - this may be related to the framebuffer console enabled in my recent kernel builds. I didn't try to dual-boot with the new kernel yet.

Morning everyone time to clarify :) Those screenshots are the tf300 cromi ported to the tf700. For some reason they get a launcher setting that allows them to boot between 4.2 and 4.1. This is missing from the TF700 4.2.1 for some reason Asus left it out. I was just proving it actually works.

Anyway the first version of CROM 4 will only have the standard 4.1.1 gui as the TF300 rom was very buggy and laggy.

Will progress build tonight after work ;)

Done some reading and couldn't figure out an exact answer. I would like to try stock 4.2 and I'm currently on CROMI 3.4.6, would the following work or does this risk a hard brick?

1. Flash latest TWRP
2. Flash Stock Odex rooted .25
3. Flash OTA update

If not, what is the easiest/safest way to try stock but rooted 4.2 on an unlocked device?

TIA

Having been back and forth between CM10.1 and CROMI 3.4.x for the past several months, I feel like I must come to the defense of the two bar Android 4.2 layout.

When I first flashed CM10.1, it did take a little getting used to the new layout. Once I became accustomed to it, however, I actually prefer 4.2 layout. While it is true that you lose about half a centimeter of screen space, you gain much easier access to settings and notifications. The toggles in the top right make it a breeze to change just about any system settings on the fly, and the notification area on the left is conveniently out of the way but still easy to access. Plus, the top bar is usually hidden when you are playing games or movies, so the screen space argument is pretty much moot.

With the old one bar layout, I can't count the number of times I have tried to open the menu just as a notification is coming through. Then it ends up opening whatever app gave the notification when all I wanted to do was change the brightness. Also, I find the Asus quick settings to be quite ugly as it clashes with the rest of the UI.

The only really complaint that I have with the new layout is how the navigation buttons are located in the bottom center, which is great for avoiding accidental button presses when gaming or browsing, but a little bit harder to reach when using the tablet with the keyboard dock. It is a slight annoyance for me, but your mileage may vary.

That being said, it just kills me that there are people who are tech-savvy enough to buy a unique tablet like the Transformer but still close-minded enough as to protest a minor UI update. Just give the new UI a chance and I'm sure you will continue to enjoy your tablet experience.

Yes, I am close-minded when it comes to usability regressions. When I have to stretch my thumb every time I want to hit "back" because they moved the buttons to the center, the "minor UI update" becomes a major annoyance. There is a certain desktop OS that I also won't touch because of its "less than minor" UI update in version 8.

@Google: What is good for phones is not necessarily good for tablets.
@Microsoft: What is good for tablets is not necessarily good for desktops.

Your choice. Won't work withoutnediting the script.

Wait a few days and I or someone will release a stock odex rom

I am 100% with you on the "certain desktop OS", I even tried it for about a month before I gave up and had to switch back to 7 (but then I have always been more of a Linux person anyway).

Back on topic, the back button is really the only thing that continues to bug me a little, but given that the keyboard dock has a back button in the top left corner it really hasn't affected usage.

All I am trying to say is that people should give it a chance for a couple weeks before planting their feet and refusing to adapt.

Ok thanks, happy to wait then. BTW the thanks on your post above was for all your hard work, not just that post :) Will you be posting the odex rom on this thread or somewhere else?

Call me crazy, but i have found that the pie controls (using the lmt app) actually works quite nicely on a tablet. Just use the sides of the tablet instead of the bottom middle. Might be a good alternative especially if there is a way to disable the bottom bar altogether.

I like that certain desktop OS in its eighth iteration, but the first app I install(ed) is Classic Start Menu -- boots into desktop mode upon boot. Start8 works too. ;)

Free RAM is wasted RAM! LOL! (I have about 15 GB free -- TERRIBLE waste!:cowboy:)

TL;DR: agree with your stance. Found a workaround.

EDIT: thanks for your clarification for the dualboot option (rom2sd) -- very nice to have!

I actually find the pie controls perfect for tablets. Even more than phones. Especially with the TF700 keyboard, you really dont need the taskbar on all the time.

    [ROM][Nov 1]★★ CleanROM Inheritance 3.5 | JB 10.4.4.25 | ODEX/DEODEX | Full ROM ★★

This is JB 4.1.1. You can install this straight over CleanROM 2.3 to 3.x or Asus Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Stock without a full wipe. The 10.4.4.25 JB Bootloader OR 10.6.1.X.X JB Bootloader is necessary before flashing this and is available in Post 2 or from the CROMi-X thread.
You should choose to do a dalvik cache and cache wipe from the installer if you want the smoothest upgrade experience. If coming from a non stock rom you will need a full wipe!
Don't forget to do a Nandroid Backup first and give the ROM 10 mins to stabilise!

If you are not using odex or your language is present and working you do not need this file. So far only the Portuguese (non Brazilian) language is reported to be missing.

Version 3.2.1 patch to remove sd card notification – 27 January 2013

A huge thanks go out to elesbb for this. Thread here. He has patched the systemui so that the sd card notifications don't show. :good:

I have odexed his patch as well as put it into an aroma so for those of you on 3.2 or 3.2.1 Odex or Deodex flash this, choose your version, and you will never see the notification for an sd card ever again :D

See post 2 for download :)

     Version 3.2.1 Full ROM - ODEX – 26 January 2013
PLEASE WIPE DALVIK CACHE AND CACHE FROM RECOVERY OPTIONS AFTER FLASHING. A FULL WIPE IS NOT REQUIRED.
The first boot will take longer than usual
This fixes the initial Odex release where stock launcher, gmail and browser2ram selections didn’t work properly. Please reflash this version.
o	CROMI 3.2.1 ODEX version released.
o	The only other changes from the DEODEX version is that the installer now groups MyCloud and Splashtop together as they have a dependency , scrollcache is disabled and integrated into the rom as is the Jelly Bean 4.2 swipe keyboard.
o	ODEX version feels smoother and should be more stable so it is my recommended flash for the latest CROMI :)
o	Currently timberwolf’s theme requires a DEODEX base and other mods not included in my installer may only work on the DEODEX version until they are tested and updated on the ODEX version – please let me know. ;)

     Version 3.2.1 Full ROM - DEODEX – 24 January 2013

    o	Optimised init.d script
o	Rebuilt framework-res.apk with no png compression for proper efficiency
o	Changed Seeder Entropy Mod from init.d script to apk as this offers user more flexibility - you need to run the apk manually now to enable it
o	Added LagFix app which appears to offer snappier transitions, app loading. YMMV - you need to run the apk to enable it. Let it do its thing and give it 2 mins to finish, then reboot (may have to boot manually)
o	Updated Es File Explore to latest version 1.6.2.5
o	Updated DropBox to latest version 2.3
o	Fixed missing Chrome library so it will install from Play Store correctly

o	Includes new modded 10.4.4.25 Asus Stock Kernel version 3.1.10.00001-gdc9b6cf Uranus by _that
o	All 5 SKU 10.4.4.25 Bootloaders now available to flash from CleanROM Inheritance 3.2 POST 2 if you want to move to the latest bootloader

o	Updated Asus Apps (Asus Web Storage & My Bit Cast, to their more recent Play Store versions)
o	Updated Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Music, Maps & Street View to their more recent Play Store or 4.2.1 Versions)

o	Updated Ad Blocker HOSTS file to January hosts
o	DRM Protected content provider removed as potential battery drain. Nothing seems broken without it….
o	All other options and tweaks the same as CROMI 3.1 (APM, Scroll Cache, Fsync, Browser2RAM, SEG patch, etc)
o	3 New Kernels added to Kernel Installer 1.5. The new TF700 10.4.4.25 Asus Stock Kernel by _that and the TF300 10.4.2.17 and 10.4.2.20 kernels by surdu_petru

     Kernel Installer 1.4 – 11 January 2013
Updated the Kernel Installer for TF300 users.
    Now includes 2 extra Clemsyn kernels (1.6ghz & 1.7ghz).
I have also amended the Unters kernels so that balanced mode scales down correctly to 1.3ghz (before it was stuck on 1.6ghz).
    Note:
There is no harm in TF700 users flashing the 2 TF300 Clemsyn kernels if you want to try some different performance modes. Not much to gain over the other Clemsyn kernels though.

     Kernel Installer 1.3 – 08 January 2013
Updated the kernel installer so that it correctly switches between Clemsyn kernels now. There was a bug before that locked it to whatever the first installed kernel's frequency was even after changing. Thanks to schidddy for noticing!

     Version 3.1 Full ROM – 07 January 2013
Consolidated the 3.0.4 patches into the Full ROM
Odexed and Deodexed versions are available – Deodexed feels snappier but Odexed feels smoother to me ;)
Added CIFS (Common Internet File System) module support via 3 new modules (CIFS, MD4 and NLS_UTF8) – This means windows shares and NAS drives are now visable using CIFS Manager and any app capable of seeing mount points. Instructions Here. Steps 1, 2, & 3 are done for you. :)
Added the Seeder Entropy Generator patch as an option which allegedly fixes some lagging in games and apps
Changed the option in installer to install MyFrame by default as so many people are using it to fix the portrait wallpaper issues
Updated Titanium Backup to the latest version 5.8.0 which now includes fix for not backing up downloaded mp3 and books from the market
Updated EsfileExplorer to latest version 1.6.2.4
Updated Google Chrome to latest version 18.0.1025469 but only works if installed to data/app so that is where it goes from now on. Blame google.
Updated Google Street View to latest version 1.8.1.2
Updated Nova Launcher to latest version 2.0

Ae there any real plans to release an Odexed version or should i just stick with the Deodexed?

    Patience is a virtute :p

I guess sbdags is working on it right now. You are not the only one waiting :)

    :)

I've just spent probably 30 hours putting the deodex version of CROMI 3.2 together. It will take at least another 5 to 6 hours to rebuild the odex version and I'm on a night off for now :p

So flash the deodex and enjoy. You can switch to the odex version when it comes along. Or you can just wait. You won't lose anything either way.

When I do a new base in order to mod I have to take Asus's odexed rom, and deodex all the files as I can't add the mods to the odexed version. Then I rebuild all the apks to where they need to go, remembering to add each mod and tweak where necessary. Then I sort out the logic for the installer and kernel options. Then I try to test it as much as I can. I'm more interested in breaking it. ;)

This time around was my fastest yet - I only had 3 bootloops which wasn't too bad. Decompiling, editing and recompiling apks and jar files is a pain as you don't know if it has quite worked until you flash it and then you find out the hard way.

To reodex I then reverse the deodex version but this time with all the mods and tweaks pre-built in.The odex version will be ready at some point this week when 3.2 deodex has proven to be stable.

I'm sure yo can live without it for a dew days. And if not just install the deodex version. You won't lose anything as I have said many times. :p :good:

    I'm relaxing for now.
