Re: [N7105] Stock ROM for N7105, Guide for installation & Root.

No point using triangle away while your on custom recovery as it will always reset to one unless you get the pro version. Then you can set it at every boot. Just use it if/when you go back to stock. Make sure the rom you are flashing is compatible with the n7105, I think the jedi rom is in one of the American variant threads

Yeah I think the Jedi X Rom is ok as galaxynote2root.com says it's ok for N1705.

Does method 2 install CWM or TWRP for recovery and does it install busybox?

Method 2 installs cwm recovery. I think all custom roms require a custom recovery as they are a zip file. Busybox is usually installed with the rom but you can download it from the play store if you want to

Thanks, but as this ROM is from America, my modem will be American, does that mean I'll get slower internet speeds when on Mobile data here in the UK because the modem isn't UK?

Not all roms change your modem but just flash the uk one from this thread after you've flashed the rom, thats what I do

Ok, I'll leave it at root for now and will see what kind of speeds I'm getting on mobile data. If needed I will load modem etc.

But when I flash to stock will I get stock modem back as well?

If you flash stock firmware for ee via odin you get everything including stock recovery. Really don't think you'll have a problem with data speeds/signal as long as you flash ee modem/csc file after you flash custom rom. Deadmans rom is hong kong based and works fine with the ee modem. I think the biggest issue with the wrong modem is battery drain from what I've read on these threads.
Ive not tried the jedi rom myself but If its this one it doesn't change your modem anyway

Cache is regularly accessed data and app components, but not app-specific data
while delvic cache stores optimized versions of your application dex files. The dex file is a dalvik executable file and is filled with dalvik

Delvic cache recommended after flashing custom ROM

Is Delvic Cache something you have to load onto the phone once you flash custom ROM or do some ROMS already have it?

When you first install a custom rom or flash a zip file you get the message android is upgrading or optimising apps. Thats the phone creating the davlic cache as far as I know. Any time you wipe it the phone will just create it by "android is upgrading/optimising apps"
I think thats the right explanation anyway

Thanks sawdoctor. I've successfully rooted now.

Dr.Ketan, I'm having some issues with EFS backup. I tried the dos programme you stated on the link but I keep getting "System cannot find path specified"

Any ideas?

Have you enable usb debugging?
You have to connect device in normal mode.

Anyway other easy way is, if you have used method 2 to root then philz recovery have inbuilt option to backup efs.
If you have used method 1,then flash philz recovery and make efs backup with that.

If I say mount External_SD it brings up the micro sd card but i want to flash the rom to internal memory

I've just installed the Jedi ROM. So far so good however my data speeds are crap, used to get 12-15mbps on EE now I'm getting 0.5mbps on EE.

Phone/texts work etc but I think I may need to flash the modem. I've downloaded the modem file from that link you gave and it's a folder however, how do I flash it to the N1705?

Thanks

    How to Root N7105

    Map for this post
    How to root N7100
Advantages and disadvantages of each method of root.
    Method 1:Root with stock Recovery
Method 2: Root with CWM recovery
Method 3 : Root with simple APK
    EFS Backup
    Unroot N7100

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    How to Root N7105
Big Thanx to Chainfire and Chenglu for great work.
You can get root access by A.Rooting your existing and desired ROM or B.Flashing prerooted ROM.

Select your choice from one of this
    1. Root with Stock Recovery - It will give full root access but have stock recovery. You can set your flash counter '0' and so ready to claim warranty. If you want device full stock + root this is choice for you.
    2. Root + Advanced CWM - This will give Root access as well advanced CWM - Here you can reset counter, but once reboot to recovery, it will raise flash counter, Find option to reset counter on every boot (only play store version).
3.Root with ExynosAbuse apk - simply install apk to gain root access.

So which one I should select? OR Which one is better?
Both Methods are given by elite developer and both are good, but both having its cons and pros. e.g.
    Method 1:
Disadvantage : Here you will get full root access, but here recovery will remain stock, so you won't have option to flash zip files (still you can flash zip with Mobile Odin), but you won't have any option for Nandroid backup/Restore.
Advantage : You have to reset flash counter once only, then whenever you need to reset to unroot/ready to claim warranty, just you need to go to superSU - setting - unroot.
So If you are Flash counter conscious and really don't have need for nandroid backup, This one is for You.
    Method 2:
Disadvantage : Note2 having auto check sum boot loader and it will check for custom things on every boot. So rooting with this method your counter will remain 1, even if you have reset it with triangle away. Though one possibility is there to reset counter, you have to use market version of Triangle Away with option 'Reset counter on every boot'. But keep in mind this option only available if your kernel support this, stock kernel won't support it. Again before claiming warranty you need to flash stock recovery.
Advantage : You will have feature rich recovery like flashing zip from recovery and Nandroid backup/Restore.
So If you are not much worrying about flash counter or warranty and you really need Nandroid backup, This one is for you.
    Method 3:
Advantage :Simply install apk to root device, No flashing/Resetting counter needed.
Disadvantage : Read below mentioned thread for security issue.

1.Root with Stock Recovery - CF auto Root from Chainfire - can keep counter '0'
Big Big Thanks to Chainfire for giving this, Here is source thread

Download this CF Auto Root package
    and extract it to .tar

    Procedure :
Make sure you have installed Kies OR Samsung USB driver
1.Open Odin and select PDA tab
2.Point to extracted file CF-Auto-Root-SGN2.tar (see image below)
3.Now switch off device and reboot in download mode
press Vol down + Home +Power, And then, press Volume UP button in Warning Page to enter the Download Mode
4.Connect device to PC and wait till device successfully added to com port (it will turn light blue) (see image below)
    5.Hit ‘Start’ to flash
6.Once it flashed successfully, you can see 'PASS' in table above the ID :COM, you can disconnect device from PC
7.Reboot device and you will have superSU in application drawer.

    attachment.php

Now you can use Triangle away and reset counter '0', Read Next post (post#3)

Again All credits goes to Chainfire, your support to Chainfire

    2. Root with Advanced CWM - By Phil3759
Big Thanx and credit goes to Chenglu & Phil3759
    Download :
    1.
Download Phills touch enhanced recovery - This recovery using SDS patched kernel code
[ Here you can find detail fuction of recovery as well support related to recovery] again big thanx and credit goes to Phil3759
    2. download SuperSu and busybox and copy zip file to Sd card of device

    Procedure :
    Step 1
Make sure you have installed Kies OR Samsung USB driver
1.Open Odin and select PDA tab (see image below)
2.Point to recovery file you have downloaded philz_touch_* -n7105.tar.md5
3.Now switch off device and reboot in download mode
press Vol down + Home +Power, And then, press Volume UP button in Warning Page to enter the Download Mode
4.Connect device to PC and wait till device successfully added to com port (it will turn light blue) (see image below)
    5.Hit ‘Start’ to flash
6.Once it flashed successfully, you can see 'PASS' in table above the ID :COM, you can disconnect device from PC

    attachment.php

    Note :
normally, phone should auto-reboot into recovery.
If it reboots into android and your recovery remains stock, repeat above steps and untick "autoreboot" in odin. Once flash is done, keep pressing power button until it reboots (normally will go to recovery)
when in recovery, if you choose option "reboot system now" and you get "yes - disable flash recovery", select that option to avoid stock recovery overwriting cwm
    Step 2 :
Now reboot to recovery and flash superSu and busy box file from recovery, which you have copied to Sd card

3.Root with apk No counter reset needs, Easiest - Credit goes to Chainfire, alephzain

1.Download latest from chainfire's original thread
2.Install application as routine apk installation and open it.
3.Open Exynos Abuse application from App drawer
    4.Select Root device (see image)
    attachment.php

5.It will ask SuperSU permission, Grant it See image)
    attachment.php

6.Now your device is rooted, for security purpose you can disable Exploit.(see image)
    attachment.php

Note : This may break camera, but unchecking disable exploit make it working again

7.Open SuperSU from app drawer and update binary (see image)
    attachment.php

How to Unroot and make status Normal
Open Exynos Abuse app, uncheck disable explot and select Unroot device (see image)
    attachment.php

Restart device and wait for 10 min. and then you can check status.

    Reseting Counter
Above method will raise flash counter and you will need to reset counter to reclaim warranty, Read next post for it (post#3)

First thing I do recommend after rooting device
    EFS Backup

    Why so?
EFS folder contains some important and some basic info related to our device identity like Wi-Fi address, Bluetooth MAC address and the very main IMEI address (nv_data.bin).
Now if this EFS partition accidently corrupted then your phone’s IMEI no. will erased and you can not make voice call further. This kind of damage is often not accepted by the service center of your respected handset’s company.
Here your backup can only be savior for you.

    How to Unroot :

    - This is commonly needed before sending it to service station and reclaim warranty.
1.As discussed in post #3 if you have any custom recovery/Kernel first you need to replace it with stock one. If you have custom ROM, then you will have to flash stock ROM.(you can use mobie odin to keep root intact to reset counter)
2.You need to use Triangle away if your binnary count is non zero (read post #3)
3.Once your flash counter is 'No' then you can simply unroot from superSU setting
if your device status is -Modified, you can do this trick to reset to normal
setting - appl manager - All - clear data for SysScope as well Enterprise SysScope
This should change system setting to Normal
If still you have modified status, you can wipe cache and data from recovery.
If still it doesn't change status, try removing Ext SD card
    4. This is optional but full proof method to unroot and won't leave any footprint of previous root.(provided you flash counter is 'No')
-Flash Stock ROM with PC Odin
    -Wipe cache and data.

    All credits goes to
    Chainfire and Chenglu

Apart from described above, you can get root access without raising counter by flashing pre rooted ROM, for further detail read this
    7
    Reset Flash Counter

There is great tool from elite developer Chainfire known as Triangle Away

    From CF -
When you run TriangleAway, if your device and firmware are supported, it will show you the detected state of the binary (custom or official) and flash counter value, and the option to Reset flash counter. Please confirm that the information shown is correct before resetting the values.

On a number of devices, TriangleAway can work, but your firmware may not be supported directly. In that case, the app will tell you it needs to reboot into a special boot mode, which will be happen if you select Reset flash counter. The device will reboot into a special mode which will allow you to review the current status and reset the binary and flash counter values (or abort and do nothing.)
using Triangle Away may unmount your SD card. Reboot or manually remount it from Android settings.

Source and full thread by Chainfire

Get Triangle Away to support CF

    Steps to reset counter
    -Download Triangle away and install
-Open Triangle away from appl drawer, grant SU permission
-Depends on your recovery/kernel, it may ask to download add on about 7.4MB file, dwnload it.
-After downloading select reset counter from application menu
-This will reboot device in special recovery, and you will see some colored text menu with big yellow, with round circle exclamation mark.
-Read available option, confirm your flash counter showing on this page and select appropriate menu(vol up) to reset counter.
-Your device will reboot and you will have counter '0'
In case if you are using CWM it may raise again on reboot, read below.

NoteII having new bootloader with auto checksum of recovery, so If you are using custom recovery flash counter may raise again on rebooting to recovery
So if you are using stock recovery, reseting count to '0' with triangle away is enough. In case you are using custom recovery, even after reseting counter again it will raise to 1 if you reboot device to recovery. For this you have to use option 'Reset at every boot' in triangle away. This option is available on Play version, and only you can see if you have custpm recovery and your kernel support it. (Redpill kernel reprted to support this feature of TA)

    Common question about reseting counter

I have reset counter but system status still 'custom'
You should have stock recovery (Method A in post#2)
If you already have stock recovery(CF Auto root) then reset counter first
then wipe cache + wipe data(factory reset) + re wipe cache
You should now have system status 'official'
I have rest counter but after reboot again it goes to 1
This happen if you have rooted with chenglu's recovery(method 2 in post#2)
This is neither error of recovery nor triangle away. This happens due to new bootloader which have auto checksum for recovery, when you reboot to custom recovery count will raise.
To prevent this you need to have play version of Triangle away, and you should check (enable) 'Auto reset at boot'. Again this feature depends on kernel/recovery is supported or not, Redpill kernel reported to support this.
