The tablet is a Fire 2 gen or otter2

Are there SRT images available for this tablet?

You need to download one of the SRT packages appropriate for your tablet (You did not say if you have the 2nd gen Non-HD, the 7" HD or the 8.9 HD tablet). If you boot into fastboot with a fastboot cable (7" HD) or using the fastboot commands (8.9 HD), you can then flash the boot, recovery, and system images and you will be back in business.

I havent been able to find any reference to SRT images for the Kindle Fire 2 7", would it be easier for me to try to load a 3rd party rom and recovery and go back to stock using the method you describe above?

Restore (downgrade?) Rom..Is it possible?

Hi All!

I hope somebody can help me a my problem, as I struggling a my Kindle since yesterday :S

I've a Kindle Fire HD "8.9 with update 8.5.1. My original idea was to root it, but after a few hours of reading the forums (and trying some methods) I concluded that maybe it's not possible on this fw number (or on my Kindle)..so I thought maybe if I downgrade the software, it would be possible (or would be easier) to root it..
So my question would be, is it possible to downgrade/restore my full stock, fully working Kindle Fire HD "8.9 with the Kindle Fire First Aide Software to a previous fw?..
If not, is there any method with which I can get root access on this fw number?..

Bigguss: Good afternoon:

1: Can you describe the reason you want to go back to stock?
The Kindle Fire 2 is not all that useful with the Kindle OS?
The CM OS works great on this tablet and you do not have to use Kit-Kat.
The older versions work great as well and are faster.

2: I did not get a chance to locate the images I said I was going to do on Friday but, will do so this week. I will also try the reverting method of installing the Kindle UPdate.
I have done this dozens of times with the 7" HD and the 8.9 HD but, not with the 7" Non-HD (only because I only have one and do not use it).

3: Using a set of images is easier and quicker than installing another ROM then reverting back to Kindle but, if you do install another ROM first, it will have to have TWRP recovery or you will not be able to revert back by installing the Kindle update.

If you can wait until I get back home (traveling this weekend), I will follow through and find my otter-2 images and post them somehow (perhaps on dropbox) for you.
Again, unless you can still boot up into TRWP recovery, you will need a fatboot cable to get your tablet into fastboot (there is no other way unless you can get into TWRP recovery).

Tux: You can use KFfisrtaide to revert the 8.9 HD tablet back to an earlier version but, most people find that the utility is broken in that the older images are not located in the online repository so, the utility cannot download them. The utility does not contain the older images. The utility downloads them each time you use the utility.

You can use the SRT restore utility to bring your 8.9HD tablet back to an older version.
Onemelia's link for the 8.9" HD tablet will allow you to revert back to an older OS version.

The problem with rooting is that there is not enough room in the system folder partition to install the SU binary during rooting with the 8.5.1 OS. The Office-suite is taking up almost all of the space. I simply edited the root 4 binary utility to move or delete the office-suite app first then install the SU binary. I first had the root utility delete the office suite which worked perfectly. I then had the utility move the Office suite APK to the sdcard first then root which also worked perfectly. You can install the APK after rooting if you really want the office suite (most people do not use it).
Editing the run.bat file in the root utility is not a big task and seems to take care of the problem. I can find the details and post if you want to edit the root tool bat file.

I'm looking to return it to stock to sell the tablet for my daughter. My reasoning is that "most" people would prefer to have it running the original OS, rather than a custom rom. Although i totally agree with you that CM11 ran great on it.

If you could find those images I'd be eternally grateful as everything i have downloaded so far has resulted with red triangle.

I have a factory cable and can get into fast boot and can communicate with the tablet no problems i just don't seem to be able to load the images for some reason.

Bigguss: Not a problem: I arrived home at 2 AM so, I am still out of the loop but, will look for the images tonight and refresh my memory on which are correct as I have a few (One simply reflashes the CM OS) .

Hi Galearned,

I have managed to get twrp back on my Kindle and am now back running CM11, so no massive rush on those images. I might try and flog it running CM11 as you said a vastly more flexible OS.

If you are getting this message in TRWP trying to install, this is normal as TRWP install does check for MD5 so always says not found but, keeps on going.
If you are getting this message outside of TWRP, I am not sure as I don't think the TWRP post site has an associated MD5?

Will the factory cable work for me ( just the best guess is okay)?

KF HD6 (2MP cameras front and rear) OS 4.1.1 is stuck in a bootloop.

I thought OS 4.1.1 was the Android version, but understand now it was Android 4.4.4 renamed.

The HD 6 was successfully rooted with KingRoot v4.5.0.722 .
OTA updates were verified disabled following a tut here.

From XDA I grabbed "update-kindle-20.4.5.3_user_453011120" and sideloaded it to the device. The idea was to (flashify) flash this update as an interim to "twrp_ready_update-kindle-20.4.5.4_user_454006120" and lastly grab the gapps utils.

Currently, at boot-up, I have the 'Amazon ' splash for 19sec, followed by a blank screen for 12sec. (no bootloader triangle logo at all).

During the 12 sec (of blank screen) when connected via USB Win7/device mgr/ 'other devices' expands to show "MT65xx Preloader" --- details are: ( USB\VID_0E8D&PID_3000REV_0100).

Neither (Android sdk) adb or fastboot commands recognize the Kindle as being attached during the 12 sec phase. Tried to connect via USB to a Win8 laptop without a positive result.

Any thoughts on whether finding the MT65xx Preloader drivers will help get past the loop and have the device recognized? Else, finding a factory cable do the trick? Or have I destroyed the img or partition as far as you can tell.

Any advice is appreciated, loved the tablet for the 2 days of reading I got from it. Leaving 'good enough alone' is not much fun...

I have completely bricked my Kindle fire 7" during installing TWRP. (Nothing appears on screen!)
I have tried resetting keeping power button for 30 seconds.
I have fastboot cable.
What Can I do? Does Kindle fire first aide can help me?
If so, The download link https://xerocomm.box.com/kffa-100 not works.
If not so, pls give me the link on what can do for a completely dead Kindle fire HD 7"

is this unbrickable?

Does anyone have any idea what can I do with a kindle that shows a huge padlock icon and asks for "boot password" ?
I tried working with KF First Aide, but i cannot access kindle menu to enable ADB because of that lock.
Tried installing kindle drivers, but all I see in the device manager is Fire and MTP with yellow explamation mark, under Other Devices section.
Tried connecting it to fastboot cable, it stays on with Fastboot logo for a minute or two, and then proceeds to boot and gets back into the same padlock screen.
I tried factory reset 10 times so far, with no positive result, it keeps going back to the padlock screen
And most importantly i did not root this kindle, and Amazon claims I did, but really nothing was done on this device other than load some books via USB cable.

Please help

My Kindle Fire HD shows the Kindle Fire splash (orange), then displays the Kindle Fastboot splash briefly, then goes black.

If I insert the factory cable immediately after powering on, I can get fastboot to work. I've tried Option 4 to restore without success. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried KFHD_SRT_v1.3.0, using option 3 "Restore-Factory Recovery".
Also once fastboot is displayed try removing fastboot cable, device should remain in fastboot, then plug in standard cable while still in fastboot to continue recover commands.

Anybody know of a different way to restore a Kindle Fire 2 to factory fresh when all I can access is fastboot. Using this tool only ends with an error on the PC saying that the MD5 sum doesn't match and it stops downloading the images.

thanks for the reply but it's not those files I need, but the actual 10.2.3 Kindle Fire system image that Fire First Aide trys to download once installed. When Fire First Aide try's to download them then I get the MD5 Sum error and Fire First Aide closes.

Also I dont think the KFFA files from post 1007 are the latest version, I think you probably want 4.1.88 Beta which you can find here (download KFFirstAide100.zip):

Tried the ones in post 1007 and got all sorts of errors (they're ver. 4.1.57 beta)

I've managed to download a 10.2.3 image from Amazon but don't know how to point KFFA to it to install. Alternatively I could do it manually via fastboot commands if I have the correct commands but cant find them anywhere for the Kindle Fire 2.

Hi Jim, just had a thought following your experience, I used KFFA version 101 which is newer still I think, I'm not on broadband at the moment, I will post a link to Dropbox for version 101 and any other files that I can find.
