Crazy Dual Captivate Setup, one silent, one with borked GPS!
After breaking the internal speaker cable connector on my 1108 build cappy, I was getting tired of always needing to have a headset or speaker connected to get ringing or notifications. otherwise the phone was great.
After telling my bro, he offers me his barely used 1007 build cappy, which is great and mint, but has bad gps hardware. On a thirty minute drive, it locks once or twice for thirty secs at most. Software and gps.conf on the two phones are identical, so its got to be bad hardware on the 1007 build. my 1108 build cappy has had solid gps performance.
after struggling with this bad gps for a day, I implemented a bt tether that works really well.
-the 1108 with good gps has no sim, but via bt internet to the 1007, which the SIM and has bt tether on, with internet H/3g.
it works, even when I am on a phone call via the 1007 with my bt headset. I watched the traffic and position update on Google nav while on a call on my bt headset via the 1007 build. This happened while listening to an audiobook on the 1007, via bt headset, which resumed after the call ended.
both phones are running 4.2.2, cm10.1 0809 nightly.
if i need voice guidance with gps, I've got an external iHome speaker.
I've got a dual usb adapter in the car, vent mount for the 'gps' cappy. guess i need to get a second vent mount for the second cappy.
To heck with upgrading. I'll just add another cappy, and another, and . . .!
