[Q] Storage Types and Issues - Please help!
I have been trying to get an annswer to some questions through searches and searches and searches, somehow I cannot seem to find an explanation that specifically solves this mystery.
I had an Xperia Pro. As you all know it is an older gen phone with mediocre specs and I had a 32 GB card on it. What I understood is that when apps are moved to SD Card, widgets become unavailable. And that the Internal Storage is limited, so bigger apps had to be moved to SD Card anyway. Straight forward, no confusions and no memory wasted.
Bought a Lava Iris 504Q a week ago (now rooted, running CWM recovery) and the phone stated to have 4 GB ROM. Attractive, if you're coming from an Xperia Pro which had close to 300 MB. And my confusion starts here:
Under "storage" in Settings I see 3 divisions:
1. "Internal Storage" - 1 GB (which is where all apps are getting installed)
2. "Phone Storage" (called sdcard0 in file browsers) - 2 GB
3. "External Storage" - My 16 GB mem card (called sdcard1)
The Phone Storage is called Internal SD card, and the external memory is called External SD Card in CWM, I see there is are options to create back up/install zip to/from "Internal SD Card" or "External SD Card". But when I go to Titanium Backup, I do not see this, everything defaults to External SD Card, as I figured by doing a Batch Move of apps to SD Card. So Phone Storage is essentially unused.
Plus, if I use the built in "Move to SD Card" option in Settings->Apps, it is moving it to the External SD Card and not the Phone Storage. Essentially, the Internal SD Card (Phone Storage) is not being used for anything!! Because, when I remove the Mem Card, I do not even get the option to "Move to SD Card".....and by default, the app gets installed in the Internal Storage....invariably leading to a warning of "Low Memory Space" - whatever happened to the 2 GB that is sitting unused as "Phone Storage"?
And, since I cannot now move any app to "Phone Storage" specifically (because there is no option at all, not even in Titanium Backup) and when I did try, nothing really happened thought TB said "Batch Move finished", the next time I looked at the number of apps available to be moved to SD Card, it still said 54 (as when I did the first move). I cannot test if widgets will be available when the app is installed in the "Phone Storage" instead of "Internal Storage", which I presume is "System Storage"
Effectively, the utility of 2 GB of "Phone Storage" is none.....and I want to be able to install apps here, and not cram the 1 GB Internal Storage. Any help please?
