For those with duplicate SMS issues on official Samsung ICS firmware

Seems there is a big issue with the new LPQ firmware.

When using 3rd party applications like handset or Go SMS the phone sends the sms twice.

Native application works fine.

Seems Samsung changed something in the last release which wasn't in any of the leaked ROMs

Multiple users are having this issue on stock and modded versions of this firmware as per

I have reported this issue to google by filing a bug but the more people that comment/star the issue the more viability it has

Google has closed my bug report saying to contact samsung. Samsung has no direct contact for bug reports

Any ideas

As you are using 3rd party apps Samsung wont and dont need to do anything. You will need to contact the app developers.

Uninstall the sms official apps or freeze it with titanium back up its work perfectly

It's all 3rd party sms apps and the issue was not there with previous leaked builds so something was done

I got the bug too, hopefully app developers can release a patch. Maybe i can freeze the app in Tbackup.

Still it won't be something Samsung will fix as there is nothing wrong with stock sms. You will need to contact the app developers

But if its a bug in the Android core, can 3rd party app developers fix it ?

As the issue isn't affecting the stock sms app then there is no bug in the firmware and if you read all the comments on the app page in the store you will see some nexus users have this issue to.

But Samsung can't simply break the 3rd party SMS functionality with the android API.

Are there not certain restrictions in place that are supposed to insure a certain amount of compatibility and stability for users as well as developers when it comes to android code

In any case this will get fixed hopefully sooner then later since if this is occurring on all of the ICS firmware then with 20 million of these phones out someone with pull at google or samsung or dev will have this issue sooner or later

I'm thinking that if it was a quick fix, a fix from the 3rd party devs would already be out ?

But as far as I have seen, none of the 3rd party devs have commented on the problem.

I think this issue cause by Samsung stock Messaging....

Samsung stock Messaging don't check if this message is sent or not. They resend this and that cause double sms. So try LPH or LPJ Massaging in LPQ.

Must be fixed by Samsung

As a developer I wrote a simple app that just use Android API to send a SMS and the SMS is sent twice. So whatever this problem not appears with sotck SMS app this clearly is a firmware bug in Samsung implementation or a side effect of the stock SMS app that sends the SMS a second time.

Samsung must fix this because any 3rd party app must be able to use the API to send a SMS and of course it's not expected that a SMS is sent twice. It seems not possible to workaround this problem for 3rd party SMS apps.

This is some serious bug. And it is not acceptable.
If only the stock app had more features and looked better, I could live with it.
But the stock app is so bad.

Sorry for my ignorance but other then all the options we have already tried do you have any additional way of either getting google to contact samsung or to contact samsung directly to report this?

Seems this will not be fixed soon since google told me to contact samsung.

with some logs or info on how you tested this. You may have more pull

Handcent works on a fix. BETA 7 worked fine for me, BETA 8 had the same problem, just sending the 2nd SMS after a longer period (30 secs). Right now I wait for BETA 9.
