Hello everyone
I am thinking of buying a Chinese 6.5" and the i6000 is one phone I have been looking at. I have read 20+ pages of this thread, but could someone please tell me all the bad features if there are similarities?
Specifically do you ever use the GPS functionality when walking or in a car? Does it work? I have another Chinese phone which has "GPS" but the GPS always fails to lock, unless you stop the car and wait for like 15 minutes or more. Other quality phones (iphone, samsung S3) lock on almost immediately to the GPS.
Many thanks
hi Zilliman,
i have been quite happy with my i6000, however, it is not without its bad points.
1) the first one probably is the not very speedy GPS. there are ways to get the GPS to connect slightly faster but it is still not as speedy as the branded name ones, there is no getting around this as it seems to be a hardware issue. however, once it connects, it seems to be quite reliable, as long as you don't lose the signal.
2) lack of software update is probably another one of them. yes, we can replace the rom but we are still using the same version of android regardless of which rom i am using, i'm not holding my breath for an android update, if it comes then good. seriously, isn't the guarantee of software updates one of the selling points of these phones? if they want to sell more phones, they should work on keeping the software up to date for at least a few more product cycles.
3) flimsy usb port, at least for me. somehow my usb port no longer wants to take a charge when the phone is turned on, i have tried replacing the rom, i have tried replacing the usb port itself but it still doesn't want to take a charge unless the phone it turned off. there were signs that it could be software related since it charges when turned off but i still haven't found a solution. it could be just me, though. please note that the micro usb port itself is notoriously flimsy, this problem could also happen to other phones.
4) stylus not very useful. when you try to use the stylus, the first thing you would wonder is whether it works at all. for me, it does work, but you have to get used to the way it registers your stylus taps. it doesn't register as well as a finger would. i never had a need to use the stylus, unless someone asked me to try it. a finger or more is more than enough for me.
5) the phone might be too big for some people, and it might not fit in a lot of physical pockets. i am perfectly fine with the size of the phone, yet, it could still be bigger. i tried mount it in the dashboard but it was a bit too heavy for the holder, just make sure your holder can clamp hard enough.
6) the free case actually muffles the rear speaker of the phone. try opening up the phone and you will see how loud the phone can really be.
7) lack for LTE support, this is common across all MTK phones, though i have read about plans on supporting LTE soon, I don't need it myself, so i think this is a pretty minor issue for me.
by the way, if you are considering buying the i6000, it might be helpful to note that the i6000+ is on sale now. this make use of the brand new octa core process MT6592 from mtk, i would love to get my hands one this but i just bought my quad core version almost half a year ago.
hope this helps
