Is it true that Samsung have taken call recording out of the kernel in 4.4?

Is it the kind of thing a dev can bake into a custom kernel?

I'm still looking for automatic call recording to work in ML2 (without an app, natively)

Ok!
In Kitkat 4.4.2, with this procedure, you will see the 'rec'.
But, then, the recording turns out to be just an annoying noise!

I fear that you are right. I just tried it and actually the recording button does nothing. It's there but nothing happens when i press it. What a shame even if i've never used it

i don't know why would you guys want to update to kitkat in a first place.. haven't you learned anything from samsung?
the only good firmware for our phones is the one it comes with.. every update after release in me experience only made the phone worse.
so i stick with 4.3 for a very long time.

For these have upgraded to 4.4. May choose mic as audio source and turn on speaker with max volume to record.
Given the problem of accessing ext sdcard and call recording, stick with 4.3 is the best option since nothing drastic improvement in 4.4.

bloody kitkat has nothing great anyways, should have read all the posts!!!
- NTFS drives not working, cant mount - I think Civz kernel does work for 4.4.2
- Call recording not working at all, I need 2-way direct stream recording.
- Flash support is crap, only works on dolphin browser.
I would actually swap for a note2 at this point in time, mine was perfect, until it hard bricked the other day :(
