Love this app. :good:
Am I correct though that headsets, especially BT headsets, are not yet fully supported?
I have tried with two Jabras (Extreme/Extreme II) on a Skyrocket running CM10.1. I'd say that my success rate with basic commands (call/text xxxx) is only about 25%. I often get Server Error or No Match. I know that some of my errors are because I haven't yet fully learned the correct command words.
I've no problems so far with (correct) commands via the handset.
Ben, I did get the offline thing sorted. Apparently the English files were already present. The N10 came with 4.2.1 but immediately upgraded to 4.2.2,so I guess it's included in one of those. At any rate, I can put it into Airplane mode and she's still very chatty.
About backup and restore: the first time I set up the N10 I let Google install all my apps automatically. To my surprise, utter! was installed with all your my settings and customizations intact, including custom commands. When I set it up after rooting (I had to completely reinstall the ROM... long story, don't ask), I manually installed the apps because there were so many from my phone I didn't need. So I tried to 'Restore from Cloud ' but no luck. I did a fresh 'Backup to Cloud' from my phone, still couldn't get them restored.
And about Chrome: the crashing it causes seems to be one of the biggest complaints with N10 owners. I had one this morning trying to login to a site with my Google credentials. I've switched to tried and true Dolphin and utter! works well with that.

You are indeed correct. Some aren't streaming to the headset, or listening through the mic! Got some on order to try and work out why... I'm sure it's a simple problem.Glad it's sorted :good:
Welcome! Although there is code for Bluetooth connectivity, it's not fully implemented, so Utter can't hear you through your BT device as of yet. Your errors are obviously because it can't hear you clearly.
There is a "car mode" that is on the dev's list coming and hopefully that will bring us up to speed with BT.
Have a great day.
Thank you to both.
GLDavis - are you saying or suggesting that it's not hearing me through my BT, that it's hearing me (or not hearing me) through the handset?
Edit : have you first tried the shake to wake feature of utter?
Hi, I also like having a way to quickly and "blindly" access utter. I highly recommend looking into purchasing the app GMD gesture. You can customize your own gesture on the screen and have it launch the quick launch utter icon.
For example If I touch three fingers to my screen and rotate them clockwise it will launch utter. It's very fast, effective and consistent. However, you will need to be rooted.

When I start utter, if I don't issue any commands, utter never times out ("utter is listening") although it does stop recognising after a short while (not sure how long) and requires another press of the launcher button to effectively "reset" it. To issue a new command I then have to launch it again. Is this normal behaviour?
Yes. It just sits in the notification bar waiting to be activated. Once you do wake it and it acknowledges you, if you don't issue a command it will go back to sleep in a few moments.
Thanks, However, in my case I then need to hit the notification bar icon twice before it will accept a new command. It doesn't go back into (I suppose) "ready mode" if it doesn't receive a command. Is there something in the settings that I've missed?
This was a problem mentioned in earlier threads, actually a while back. Did you just install? Have you rebooted since it was installed?

In stand bye while the app is waiting for a command hows the app as far as battery life? Does it go into a deep sleep, or suck away on the battery. Always sits in the notification tray I have noticed. Just started playing with the app last night. Please advise and thanks!

Go into utter settings and find nicknames and assign a nickname to each contact that has a Foreign name that the English engine cannot handle.
Nicholas: That's why i'm here in the first place! I can't figure out nicknames for over 100+ contacts on my list, not to mention remembering them.
Making up nicknames for Łukasz or Joanna would be easy but what with OTHER Łukasz and Joanna? Cause... you know... there's more than one person with those (pretty much common) names. And what do you expect me to do with names like Błażej Zapędowski or Róża Nawrot? What possible nickname i could use (AND remember) for them?
My question still stands:
Is there a way to give commands in english and make utter! switch recognition engine (like for messages or tweets) to native language?
Or is there a way to use native engine and let user sort of re-make the main commands like "call" or "open contact" in the native language?
Cheers,
Bushman
That would explain why my results are so poor with BT. A little bit of testing (covering the handset mic) seems to support this. At least now I know how to improve my BT results: make sure the handset mic is close and no big sounds getting in the way.
Thank you! Got a few more clues on the headset/bluetooth issues, I'm sure I'll crack it soon! One of the best apps for voice that I have ever used. Once BT recognition for in car use with my parrot MKi 9200 happens it will be unstopable as the number one voice app in Android...bar none!! Truly fantastic app!!!!!
Not sure what OS you're running, but there's a Jelly Bean bug that's causing issues similar to this. Will be fixed before the next release! When I start utter, if I don't issue any commands, utter never times out ("utter is listening") although it does stop recognising after a short while (not sure how long) and requires another press of the launcher button to effectively "reset" it. It should use less than 1% as it completely hibernates (as long as you don't have wave or shake activated). The Jelly Bean bug mentioned about is causing continuous recording of the audio, which seems to be the cause of most battery issues. In stand bye while the app is waiting for a command hows the app as far as battery life? I'd be interested to know anyone's findings who monitors it - All of my test devices come in at under 1% when it's idle. Hope you experience the same![SNIP]Go get betterbatterystats from here within xda. The dev has a free version fox xda users or you can support him and purchase his app in the playstore.
Answered this a couple of pages back for you somewhere!? Check the Translation link in the user guide. It's for contacts/texts/calling etc in your own language. Plus any other commands and custom intro! Is there a way to give commands in english and make utter! switch recognition engine (like for messages or tweets) to native language?
Just spotted this - could you clarify the issue you're having, just in case I've overlooked something? The same for me, and always has been. What phone and Android version?

Thanks for all of the comments and support folks. For all of those eager to test something I'm going to knock up a configuration apk over the weekend. Nothing too exciting I'm afraid, but digesting the comments I've realised I really need to initially focus on the following:
