Ok so, through previous tinkerings I had flashed one of the updates and gained the new radio and kernel then flashed liberty and was on that for awhile.

I now tried reverting back to stock using the released method and then upgrading 1 by 1 as the op says but the first update fails every time. Is it because I already have the new radio and kernel? Would really like to get to .7 trying to figure out if it's possible.

Step 3. Do 3
And so on.......

Not sure who you're replying to but does stock mean just the 886 system or do you need to have the stock radio and kernel? I have the new kernel radio and borked webtop from previously flashing 5.6.993

So essentially I have on 886 w/ the new radio and kernel and the first update won't work.

just system...i started on 5.893 and went in sequence...so maybe if you start with #2 it will take...then go to the next...

Been having the same issue. Had 5.5(6) 893 and got the new radio/kernel. Everytime I tried the 2.1 restore then the updates/root/ it fails immediately too.

There is plenty of opportunity to be confused here and nobody has a right to cop an attitude.

BUT, likewise, none of us should be doing any of this stuff to $600 phones and if you want to play in the deep end you better know how to swim!

You MUST be completely stock on 5.5.886, if you're not go here to do so: R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2

After that apply the FOR3V3R root and proceed with the following:

Flash stock recovery of full Blur_Version.5.5.886-5.7.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US

how to get into stock recovery, some people were having issues or trying to flash via cwm

Now for the WEBTOP flash this via CWM
[MOD] Webtop Via HDMI Without a Dock

You will now be on the latest update and have root and webtop

    1810221d-e446-4fe9.jpg

BTW, seems the MR1 update was the culprit, webtop was working with all other updates

    NO LONGER NEEDED STEPS

1.) Download and install 5.6.893 via stock recovery Blur_Version.5.5.893(5.6.893).XT875.Verizon.en.US
    md5:066e3c2393aeecb963fc950013e42a76

2.)Download and install 5.6.893MR1 via stock recovery Blur_Version.5.5.893mr1.XT875.Verizon.en.US
    md5:0fd4bd040c35e681f2d54cc41aff3520

    3.)Download 5.7.893 and install 5.7.893 via stock recovery Blur_Version.5.6.893-5.7.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US
    md5:e594bfcf52ae297ffb9a77b3cbb20882

Disclaimer: I am not responsible with what happens with your phone if you don't know what you are doing

EDIT: Seems webtop is broken in the last 2 updates, trying to find a way to fix it or if we can narrow down what's breaking it.

EDIT: Will post the full 5.7.893 when I get home

I was on Th3ory 2.1 and had previously completed the forever root and upgrade to 5.5.893 (system/radio/kernel). Therefore I couldn't do the simple instructions in the OP to get to 5.7.893.

What I did (successfully) was (and booting between each step):

    1. Used the R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R Root for the BIONIC method to go back to 5.5.886 with forever root.

    2. Used a file provided by p3droid to get my system to 5.5.893. Note that this file must be flashed via CWR and not stock recovery.

    3. Flashed step #2 in the outdated instructions.

    4. Flashed step #3 in the outdated instructions.

    5. Completed the R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R Root for the BIONIC AGAIN to go back to the .886 system.

    6. Flashed the full update to 5.7.893 in the OP.

At this point you should be on 5.7.893 system and radio/kernel. You can flash the webtop hack in the OP if you want. And you can flash any custom ROM that you want (although unless that ROM was bulit using 5.7.893 you will be on an older system, although with the 5.7.893 radio/kernel).

    Hope this helps.

Thats the exact steps I followed originaly to get on .7.893 and I have repeated those exact steps after going to [Rom]Shift3r. The errors I provided above are the responses to my second attempt...so yep did that.

After you have been on .7.893 and go to something else and want to get back to .7 you can just restore your backup of .7 if you made one. If not you will have to restore your system back to .886 and then flash the full update from .886 to .7.893. If that doen't work you might have to fast boot the webtop to the .886 webtop.

Im on stock rooted 886 with forever root. When I go to settings and about phone it says theres an update available 5.7.893 if I decide to go through and install it will I lose root?

Download all the updates I posted to upgrade or it will fail...I mean you could try without updating the other files first, but won't work
