Should I return this and get the Xperia Z Ultra?

I am having difficulty deciding between Note 3 and the Z Ultra as well. My main beef with the Note 3 is that it is not much bigger than Note 2 which I currently own. Also had Note 1 before that and Samsung Galaxy S2 before that. A phone from a different maker will be refreshing. The Z ultra is also gorgeous, but the battery life could be a problem. I am also hesitant to buy the Z Ultra because there are still no US Carriers. I would like to see it in person. The Note 3 works with the Galaxy gear which I would like to buy, so that is a plus for the Note 3.

My decision making became more complex with the fact that the HTC One Max will soon be released. I sort of knew the HTC One was a good phone but never really cared about it because of its 4.7 inch screen. In anticipation of the Max, I decided to check the video reviews of the HTC One. All the reviews were beyond stellar. That gives me huge hopes for the Max. It will have a slightly larger screen than the Note 3 but the size of the phones will be about the same. I hardly use the S-pen on my Note 2, so the lack of stylus on the Max will not be a problem.

Yes, I want as big a screen as possible, but the Z Ultra may be pushing it. Especially with the large bezel of the Ultra and the fact that I can't walk into a store and see it before buying it. The negative for the Z ultra is that it will not sell anywhere near the Note 3, so the weak user base will affect custom development of roms, etc for it. Note 3 is mainstream and the Max will also definitely have a smaller market share than the Note 3.

At one point, I decided to maybe go for Note 3 in which case I can get the second iteration of the Z ultra when it comes out hopefully before June 2014. By then Sony will have learnt some things and improve on the Z ultra. Another negative for the Z ultra is that technically, it's been out since June and a new version may be released early next year. I do like to get my gadgets close to the release dates so I can have about 1 year of use before the next version comes out, by which time I have to get a new one. As the Engadget reviewer for the Note 3 advised in the wrap up, I am waiting for a couple of weeks to see what my phablet options are before pulling the trigger. Waiting the 2 weeks is difficult because several times I just tell myself that I am still going to end up with the Note 3, so why not buy it right away.

Sorry I have not helped your decision, but just pouring out my considerations.

Hello my name is Steven! I recently bought a Note 3 around a week ago. Before this I had a Galaxy Note 2 i317. Im just gonna get straight forward with spme things

So the first thing I noticed is how the back feels. The black feels more like leather "its plastic" and little bit more grippy then the white one....(but the white one feels like plastic...blah) Then theirs that weight it's much lighter then Note 2. And the Note 3 is slightly narrower. So just all of this is a great plus. It simply feels better to hold :)

Screen. .....This screen is just jaw dropping the pixel density is extremely high the whites look white it's amazing. On the note 2 the whites just looked a little blue to me but that's just all changed with the note 3 the screen is crisp the colors are beautiful and and slightly saturated (but not as bad as the note 2) but I like that. Also the brightness is much higher you can easily read or play it outside.

Camera. The camera is just damn good too and the screen helps a lot to here's some pic I took decide for your self there's 1280-720 slow motion video that's takes 1/2 1/4 1/8 of video at 120fps. Also it records 60FPS ( optional) and it looks crazy good :p and all the other options for sences ect.

Hardware. The power buttion and volume buttons are the same just as clicky. The volume buttons are slighty higher then before "it might affect some people with small hangs". The home button has more of click. Think of the silver bar around the note 2 button and have those together to make a button it self so your not pressing down into the sliver bar. So this makes a bigger more stable button that clicks way better. The pen can be put in ether way. Its like a pen that someone sat on lol its flat on top and bottem. The tip is rubber yay! The pen also works with the capacitive buttons double yay!

Battery. When I heard the battery was only 100mah bigger then the Note 2 I thought holy crap the battery is gonna suck.. I was wrong just because its more powerfull and it has a higher res display the battery life is about the same I get roughly 4-5 not bad :)

My name is Steven and I am very happy I bought this phone :)

So the choice is yours are you getting a Note 3? Let me know! Got any questions? Let me know!

Wowwww..the camera pictures look promising..How is it to hold in the hand and use it day in and day out? Is it too large for regular use? I take my phone out of my pocket and slide it in at least 100 times a day. Getting torn between the S4 and the Note 3.

Meh it feels big at first but give it a day or two and ut feels like a normal phone and you might never go back to a smaller phone ever again! :) The note 3 is very narrow and light it shouldn't be a problem :)

Can I respectfully request the moderators reconsider this plan to stick every single discussion comparing the Note 3 to another device in one thread? I understand the impulse, but does this really make sense?

The other Note 3 forum doesn't have it, and I don't think they've suffered. And I know I'm going to miss comparisons I find useful if they're buried in this thread, where I can't see the specific comparison in the title.

Please reconsider. I've never seen a forum declare these comparisons "off topic" and segregate them in this way.

I have the Note 3 and G2. The G2 is a very sick device thar is very fast. I like the knock on feature and the overall design. The Note 3 allows me to do more within my job without carry a notepad. S Pen had been very helpful for me.

Comparision of galaxy round with note 3

Finally the much anticipated smartphone by Samsung, with a curved screen and known as Samsung Galaxy Round, has finally been revealed. Samsung has confirmed all the rumors that were making rounds but sadly it will first be launched for only the Korean audience to gauge a market reaction.
Some rumors also indicated that Galaxy Round would be a variant to the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and will be named as Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Active. Since the specifications have been confirmed let’s find out how much does it differ from the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
Display:
The Galaxy Round has a curved display which is the first of its kind ever seen. It has a 5.7 inches Full HD Super AMOLED curved display which is exactly the same as Galaxy Note 3 except the curved part and may be the pixel density.
OS:
Both the smartphones would come with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS. Both the handsets would receive OTA updates of Android 4.4 Kitkat OS as soon as it is released.
Processors:
The Galaxy Note 3 has a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Krait 400 processor in its LTE variant but the 3G version features a 1.9 GHz quad-core Cortex A15 and 1.3 GHz quad-core Cortex A7 chip. However, the Galaxy Round will feature a Exynos 2.3 GHz quad-core processor.
RAM:
Both devices have 3 GB RAM which according to Samsung is better for multi-tasking.
Camera:
A 13 megapixel rear camera is sported by the Galaxy Round which is the same as the Galaxy Note 3. It is expected that the front camera is also the same, i.e., 2 megapixels.
Connectivity:
LTE-A sign can be sign imprinted on the back panel in the pictures but nothing has been confirmed yet. Other connectivity options are same as the Galaxy Note 3 which include NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi.
Battery:
Samsung Galaxy Round has a 2800 mAh battery capacity which is quite lower than the 3200 mAh present in the Galaxy Note 3.

Note 3 1080p Pentile Display

is only slightly better than Note 2's non-pentile 720p display.
As a former Note 2 user, I tell you this:
To avoid further disappointment, please do not compare it with iphone 5's display.

Thank you Samsung!

Above is my original post. Since no one is willing to have a rational discussion, I have to bring out the numbers.
I know that in terms of color rendition, Note 3's display is excellent.
But in terms of sharpness (which I think is more important), I don't think so.
Because Note 3 uses pentile matrix, we cannot just compare the ppi (388) with, for example, iphone 5 (326).
We need to compare the sub-pixel, Note 3 has two sub-pixels per pixel. Let's see the sub-pixel per inch:

Note 2: 462 sub-ppi
Note 3: 549 sub-ppi
iPhone 5: 565 sub-ppi

If you think Note 3 is sharper than iPhone 5, please upload two pictures, let the pictures talk.

It's quite apparent that you just will not be able to understand this. I highly recommend you move along because whatever you're trying to get accomplished by these misinformed posts, will not happen.

You will not convince not a single individual in any Note 3 thread that you continue to troll with this information that a Note 2 or iPhone (any model) has a better looking or more detailed display.

I compared with the iPhone and I think you're blind. But anyways, from the numbers you posted still doesn't make sense. You say is not a big difference from note 2 (462) to note 3 (549), but I'll be disappointed if I compare note 3 (549) with the iPhone (565)? You don't make sense.

Can someone tell me how to make the Pebble fully compatible with the Note 3. There was a post here in the ATT general section but it got locked down. Someone mentioned they had to root and then freeze stuff with TB. Any other ways? Basically I loose some funtionality of the phone with the pebble enables in accessibility. I can't use one handed gesture to shrink the screen

Edit: some sort of talkback bug??

The only way I know of of to kill the Talkback bug is to root and then freeze both Talkback and Samsung TTS engine. That is the only thing that stopped the browser from talking to me every time load a page. I tried everything else: toggle talkback off/on, volume settings, etc.

Thank you. I had kind of figured that may be the case, I just didn't know what I would need to freeze. I will try it out once I root I guess.

It's too bad because the newest firmware for the GS4 didn't have this bug, nor did the Galaxy Mega 6.3. I wish Samsung would figure this out and fix it once and for all.

Yesterday I got the chance to play with the gold model of the M8 at Best Buy. I'm sorry... call it "bias." Call it "ignorance." Whatever. I honestly don't get the hype over this turd. Seems to me like there's only two groups of people who are wetting their pants over this thing. Group A – the group that is brainwashed and has bought into this ridiculous "build quality" fad that's emerged in the last few years. And Group B – the people who are just easily impressed with "the new kid on the block," and they simply must have the newest device on the market. Otherwise, I honestly don't see how a Note 3 user (specifically) could be interested in this device. I was bored out of my mind playing with this thing.

    (1) I think it's uglier than the original HTC One. (2) Sense is boring as crap. There's a reason why I gave up on the EVO. I was getting so sick of Sense and it's lack of features and change in design. (3) Speaking of features... this phone basically has none — at least when compared to the Note 3. I kept waiting to see all of these amazing capabilities that this phone had, that would make me envious, but alas none were to be found. (4) This build quality argument seems grossly overrated. I was totally unimpressed with the design of the M8. Most people slap their phones in cheap plastic cases, to begin with. So that automatically makes build quality a moot point. Secondly, I have owned many many many phones throughout the years, many of them the best smartphones of their time. I cannot recall a single time where I was like, "Geesh, I am just in love with holding this phone because the build quality is like sex on a beach!". That's something I've never cared about or even thought about. As long as the phone can withstand drops and scratches, that's what I'm concerned about. I want an attractive design, but what good is an attractive design if I have to throw an ugly case on the phone? And as far as I know, metal phones are especially prone to damage from drops, they scratch easily, dent easily, and scuff easily.

I simply could not find a single reason to seriously consider (cough) "upgrading" to the M8, and I am currently off-contract with AT&T. The screen-size is a downgrade. The UI is a downgrade for me. The phones features and capabilities are a downgrade for me. The physical design is a downgrade for me. The on-screen buttons are a downgrade for me. I am totally not interested. I really don't understand the hype over this phone. Sorry. There's a reason why the Note 3 is still the more expensive device on- and off-contract for the two devices. The Note 3 is just the more capable and feature rich phone. :p

Please use this thread to discuss devices other than and any comparisons with other devices on or about the Note III in this thread and any other off-topic issues that are not needing a new thread.

Post with respect, this is a helpful community, hope we all learn from this stuff in here.

I wanna know how the G2 and Note 3 compare.

    I currently own both g2 and note3.

To be honest, g2 is really an awesome phone and I'd choose it over note 3 any day. It's fast smooth and about same amount of available ram. Lg stole all the software features from touchwiz and incorporated in g2.

Double tap to wake up a phone is an awesome feature that I miss also in note 3. Camera on g2 is superior and comes with an optical image stabilization which (I think) is missing on note 3.

Another thing to note is that g2 can be rooted and (AT&T) note3 cant be. I'm aheavy modder and flasher but for some reason I don't feel the need to root note3 or g2 either.

Now why do I like note 3 is because its a note series phone. I love the s-pen. At my work I have a choice of carrying a notebook and a g2 or just a note 3. Well I choose note3.

I know rooting is not a priority for me right now but if it is something that matters to you then either get a g2 or a tmobile note3. Or wait for a while.

Are the Nexus 5 or HTC Max serious competitors for the att note 3? What about the Chinese smartphones(cyanogen phone, etc) coming out soon?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Nexus 5 is a competitor for any phone, period.

Now that being said, the latest leaked spec document for nexus 5 reveals it to be similar to g2 with 600 mah less battery (2400 in nexus 5 as compared to 3000 in g2). My g2 lasts for 24 hours easily but I don't think it was a smart choice to lower the battery power of nexus 5.

My gut feeling it's that G2 will have a good dev forum.
