So if I decide to buy the A700 (I already decided that, just haven't bought yet ) would it be sufficient to unlock bootloader, execute the pretty simple first method in the first post and my device will be rooted. So would it then be enough to just install ROM Manager and through ROM Manager get CWM? All I want is root and the chance to flash custom roms.

And I wondered: this tablet seems to be out for about half a year now - isn't it that popular or is it just not so easy to build custom roms for it? Compared to Nexus 7, where there are tons of custom roms and easy one-click-tools for noobs like me, there's less going on in this forum...
PLEASE HELP US GETTING NVFLASH ON ASUS TF300/TF700!

Thx. Got a question regarding the bootloader unlock. The same instruction was in a german forum and it frightened me
At the point where I'd have to push vol up and vol down the german instruction said that one needs to be fast and from that point on the device could get bricked.
Is there something to it? I mean, how fast would someone have to press the buttons?

I've unlocked my tablet four different times (after returning to stock a couple times). It hasn't bricked me, yet.

You don't have to be super fast, but you can't just stare at the screen for ten seconds, either.

And please, follow s1r1's advice and use Vorbeth's EasyRoot after you have unlocked. The methods described in this post are for tablets running ICS, and they will brick a JB tablet.

Dear MODs: Is there any way to have this thread locked and the first post changed to reflect that this is only good for ICS? The Q&A section has a lot of people trying this and almost (and some succeeding) bricking their tablets.

Are you on JB or ICS? (check your bootloader version when you start the tablet)

If you are on JB, the OP has BIG RED WARNING that these steps are for ICS ONLY.
