Me too. I had been using 2.1.1 (successfully) until tonight. I flashed 2.2.1 thru RM and went to do a Nandroid bu with ext selected. After coming back after well over an hour my screen was full of dots. I did a battery pull and rebooted. Looking at the nandroid, there are only 4 files, boot, cache, data, and system. What is wrong here.

Update: Reflashed and successfully did 3 bu with different things selected. Also saw someone suggested wiping cache and dalvik-cache first.

just don't wipe data first - nor use calk's format all !
i gave someone a hand that had used calk's format all before doing a nan backup.
obviously, the nan restore went pretty quick !
we all live and learn - android community rocks !

Backups still hanging on 2.3
for me.

Update: sorry guys, I wiped cache and dalvik and it worked. Thanks a lot.

When did this having to wipe these two caches first appear. Is it an issue only for those who run ext partitions? I just remember having to do this until I recently began running apps2sd again (haven't been doing that since my G-1 days LoL!)

I would expect the non-wiped restore to take longer but that seems too long?
I admittedly goofed as was connected via USB during all backups and restores...was that the issue?

Thanks for all your hard work Bro!!

Ugh... 6 minutes to backup B+S+D and 12 minutes to restore?!!
It really shouldn't take that long... WTF?!

I tested the same recovery binary on my Nexus One and did a nandroid backup and restore of a clean CM7 : B + S + D :

Backup +- 1 minute
Restore +- 1 minute

I wonder if something is wrong with the kernel...

Could you try to boot into recovery and NOT flash anything.
Just backup and time how long it takes.
Then reboot again in recovery and restore and time how long it takes?

You mean run backup/restore after running Calks Format All?
So in a sense-no ROM?

*EDIT*
Did that and backup and restore were 10-15 seconds.
Lemme know what else if that's not what you meant.

I actually meant just backup and restore a normal rom (B+S+D) without flashing anything right before it.
So just boot into recovery and immediately do a backup or a restore, in a full-sense ROM kind of way (like a normal user would do).

I've swapped kernel, could you please try to backup a rom (B+S+D) with this version and time the restore and backup time?

Thanks for taking time to test this! Really appreciate it.

Ok, for comparison-
Still on 2.3:

Flashed Virus AB5.4 w/ Ziggy kernel 1-09-11
Rebooted
Did not set up ROM
Booted into Recovery
Backed up B/S/D
Took 4 minutes to backup
Immediately went to restore
Took 7:30 to restore.

Booted ROM

Flashed 2.3-test image.
Booted Recovery

Backed up B/S/D
Took @ 2:30.
Immediately went to restore.
Took @ 3:00

That's better :)

W00t!! So it wasn't the new wipe code afterall ;-)
Going back to new wipe code and will release new version soon.

Thanks for testing.

My pleasure. Thank YOU.

Just FYI-I then went and restored my 2nd backup from 2.3-the one where I wiped cached and Dalvik before the backup and it was even quicker-@ 2:30 to restore. Initial boot was lengthy-as expected-but ROM is back just like I never left :D

ok, again a new test version :

  1. New kernel 2.6.35.9 (should fix backup/restore time + endless dots)
  2. Nandroid will skip sd-ext backup when it's not present
  3. Nandroid will not check the battery percentage anymore
  4. Reverted back to the same wipe code and logging method as v2.2.1 compared to the previous v2.3 test version.

Testers : Please time your backup and restores and mention what you selected to backup/restore.

No wipe.

Ran Calks Format All
Restore took @ 2:30
WOOT!

Just fyi-upon reboot after restore there appears to be an errant image, some screen distortion, at the bottom of the screen.
Could take a still photo if its important.
I'm sure it means nothing, just pointing it out.

Hey Amon, I'm having an issue. What's happening exactly is Rom manager shows the latest RA being 2.2.2 but when I flash I get 2.2.1. It worked fine on my wife's evo and gave her 2.2.2. Also in rom manager, after flashing RA, it says that I have 2.2.2 but when I go to recovery it's 2.2.1. I have no idea what's going on.

Latest v2.3

Backup Start/Stop
3:29:01
3:31:43
2min 42sec

Restore Start/Stop
3:33:00
3:34:55
1min 55sec

This fixed the endless dots for me and over 7min durations.

As mentioned by above user, there is a screen tear like image after selecting reboot. Never seen that b4. Thanks :)

Edit: I just reboot again from recovery and the entire screen is distorted o_O

Check your wife's evo again, afaik there never was a 2.2.2 and that was just a typo in ROM Manager.

    [ Description ]

This is a custom recovery based on Cyanogen's recovery source with a lot of things added by me. The purpose of this recovery is to avoid using adb by accessing all features directly from the menu.

    [ Features ]

Detailed description of every menu item

    [ Known Issues ]

v2.3.3 has some screen tearing/color weirdness going on. This is just a graphical bug in the recovery kernel, nothing to worry about. I'll try to fix it in a next version.

[ Download ] - ALWAYS check the md5sum to make sure the file isn't corrupted!

    recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img - MD5Sum: c00243750cc79e4a1dd4888db175b19f
    PC36IMG.zip - MD5SUM: 6dbb98f9cfa35033982c3803d2520466

Mirror to all my recoveries (Click a few adds to keep it up and running - Thanks DrMacinyasha ^^)

[ Install ] - There are several ways to install a custom recovery, feel free to pick the one that suits you best :

    - the Bootloader way - - Thanks Tiffany84 ^^
    • Place PC36IMG.zip on the root of your sd card.
    • Boot the phone into the bootloader by powering the phone down, then press the power and the volume down buttons at the same time.
    • Once the phone boots into the bootloader the phone will automatically recognize the zip file. It will ask if you would like to update, select yes and let it do it's thing and you will be good to go

    - via Rom Manager - - STILL NEEDS TO UPDATED TO v2.3!!
    • Download "Rom Manager" from the Android market
    • Start "Rom Manager"
    • Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and wait for it to finish
    • Select "Flash Alternate Recovery" and wait for it to finish -> this will install the latest version of RA recovery.

    - via terminal app or adb - (Make sure your rom contains flash_image!!)
    • Copy recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img to the root of your sdcard
    • start the terminal app or launch adb
    • su(press enter)
    • flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img(press enter)
    • reboot recovery(press enter)

    [ Important notes ]
    • Don't restore wimax nandroids between different phones! If you still plan to do it make sure to remove the wimax image from the nandroid backup before restoring!!
    • I'll only answer to posts with a real problem description and a pastebin log. All other "issues" will be skipped/ignored.
    • Make sure have enough free space available on your sdcard when making a nandroid backup!!
    • Always check recovery.log before posting your issues!
You can do this by doing :
      • "cat /tmp/recovery.log" OR "cat /cache/recovery/log" right after you had the issue.
      • Use the "move log to sd" option in the "others" menu right after you had the issue. This will move the log to /sdcard/recovery.log so you can easily open it with a text editor.

    [ Special Thanks ]
