My wife had a very very very small can only see it up close and at an angle but can feel it if you run your nail across it scratch on the VERY FIRST DAY OF OWNING THE PHONE! Also for some reason her prox sensor hates having a screen protector on it but I fixed that with a 1/8" craft hole punch.
Suffice to say, both of ours have the Skinomi protectors on them now and I can say they are so much better than having the phone naked. If you take your time and clean the HELL out of the screen and be a nazi about any dust or specs then you will never know the protector is there. I have no idea how people look at their screens every day with air bubbles over white flakes of spooge or dead skin or crud or whatever under there... makes me sick... Another added bonus of the Skinomi is that it does not smudge like the naked screen seems to love to do if you even pretend to touch it. It ALSO does not get all tacky like the Zagg protectors do. I ordered 4 of these Skinomis at $3 each on Amazon when we got our phones. 1 botched install and 1 having to pull the protector off my wife's phone after realizing the prox sensor was going nuts, I've ordered 4 more and will buy even more if I see that Skinomi has stopped making them although they still have them available for many devices that went EOL a long time ago. Really can't recommend these protectors enough. They are invisible, they don't scratch like the cheap dry apply protectors do, they don't get tacky, all imperfections and bubbles that you can't squeegee out disappear within a day or two and they are very inexpensive.
With that said, Droid 3 digitizers are like $20 and there are plenty of walkthroughs on how to disassemble the D3 and change it out. I've done that procedure to a few Galaxy S phones and it isn't that hard.
