Rooting/Flashing my HTC EVO on a Mac...
I've been going down the rabbit hole all day on this site looking for info, but have yet to find any help on my specific situation, so I'm deciding to post. All I want to do is root my phone, and then put a new Android version on it (4.0+).
The more guides I find, the more I realize how hard they are to follow. :/ They all look like they assume the user knows exactly what's being done and can fill in the blanks. They aren't very in-depth at all. I'm unable to do that, because I'm extremely new to this. I only have this one phone, and if I botch this, I'm out. Completely. It also appears that I have some factors working against me.
For starters, my firmware is too new (5.07.651.6 710RD). I'm also running 2.3.5. And... I use a Mac. A lot of these guides only have steps for if you're using Windows (lots of .exe files and Windows only programs). As of now, I already have all of my phone's info (HBOOT, hardware/software version, PRI, etc).
All I'm after is a solid root method for my phone that Mac users can do, as well as a guide for getting a 4.0+ ROM on the phone that Mac users can also do.
