You don't need USB debugging. Sp flash tool does low level flashing when os is not booted at all. Device will be detected as soon as you start flashing provided your USB vcom driver is installed correctly...

Flashing now, looks like I had to do the following: Connect the phone with scatter file preloaded with the battery, then unplug the battery and hit download. Will see how it goes.. :good:

edit: Wohoo, works now! Thank you very much for your help. Now that I'm at it, might as well try different ROM. Any suggestions? ;)

Thanks

I messed my audio setting in engineering mode. Your post sure did help me out. It also made the sound better and louder.

These setting were tried on Ainol Nummy Ax1 which is MTK chipset phablet.

Well the phone is dead now, Windows does imply that the phone is connected but the device doesn't charge at all. I cannot make any connection with the device in Windows or in any other way.

This will surely be the last chinaphone that I will buy since the phone lasted a whopping 3 months before breaking completely. Sending the device to China with Google accounts etc. is out of the question so I suppose I will be forced to buy standard phones (that actually work).

For some reason I dont have the MTK Preloader, only driver that I have is the MTK USB port (COMXX) but no preloader? Is there to preloader in this MTK chip (no idea what I am talking about!) or what the heck is going on?

When you see mtk USB, firmware upgrade of the whole ROM (including preloader) should bring it back to life. Make sure you flash correct ROM designed for your w8 model.

But it doesn't and I dont have the original rom since the phone suddenly died on me. Now I think my only chance is to get the original ROM somehow with the original preloader that actually goes into the device so I can then try to install everything else.

With only the preloader I still get the same 4032 error. So either the preloader isn't right OR the dram is faulty?

900 Mhz...problem

HI, these my first post, and sorry for my English. I have a thl w8+, and I have a problem: My phone, when I come back from job to home, freez the signal. On the dysplay, you can see signal of both the operators, but telephone doesn't work. After reebot everithing is ok. I tested Gm2 3.0...GM2 1.9...Gm2 1.7 and last stock 20130625...now I'm testing Gm2 1.5....but I don't know were is the problem. Same think appens when in the morning I go from home to job driving 25 Km during I lost the signal..

In Italy now a loto of people have this proble, wich is connected with the modem baseband that have not the 900 MHz band. Now some providers use this band for umts connection...this is a real problem ...we need a new baseband.:rolleyes:

Engineer Mode Tweaked Audio Level Settings for ThL W8

To enter Engineer Mode dial *#*#3646633#*#*
You can also create a shortcut to engineer mode using your launcher. In LauncherPro, for example, you can long press on an empty space on the home screen and choose shortcut, activities, engineer mode, com.mediatek.engineermode.EngineerMode

Just want to share something about THL W8
Since our THL W8 ringtone and in call volume is low, you may refer link below for tips to increase your ringtone volume, in call volume and mic volume.
    http://www.zopomobileshop.com/zopo-...le-phone-mic-loudspeaker-and-ringtone-volume/
    http://www.patchworkoftips.com/increase-call-volume-android/2028/

Once in engineer mode, slide right two times to Hardware Testing, then choose Audio.

These are the audio levels I'm using for the ThL W8 (4g rom model). Your levels may vary or or your preferences may vary.

-Level 0 through Level 6 are listed in sequence.
-Media setting is for playback of movies/audio/etc in most cases.
-Sph in most cases is the handset (earpiece not earbuds) speaker output in phone calls
-I believe sip refers to VoIP phone call volumes.
-sph2, sid, and matv, not sure what they refer to.
    -FMR, is FM radio.
    -Ring is ringtone volume.
-Can't set the FMR any lower than 16 and 16 is kinda loud for the lowest volume it will go while earbuds are plugged in. Anyone have a fix for this?
-I'm not sure why there is a 'max vol' setting on most of these as setting a specific volume level greater than the max makes it louder than the 'max vol' setting. Maybe the specific level settings are like a percentage of the 'max vol' setting (like 255/255 is 100%, 64/255 is 25%, 255 being the highest number a single byte (8 bits) can hold in binary notation).
-If the max isn't marked as (unchangeable) then you can change it to something different (higher, lower).
-Max vol setting applies for all levels of a specific audio 'type' and not to individual 'levels.'
-Setting loudspeaker, media to 255 caused slight distortion in my testing, YMMV. 248 seemed just right for loudness with no distortion.
-Other guides mentioned a reboot is required to hear changes. I found this was not the case and I could tweak the volume as it was playing no reboot needed. Though you'll probably want to reboot after you find a good setting for your phone to save the changes.

If you want to change the volume of the phone you have to first look at the way engineering mode is organized. Choose your desired speaker output first. Do you want to change earbuds/headphones? Then choose headset mode. Do you want to change the main loudspeaker? Then choose Loudspeaker mode.

Then, determine what kind of sound you want to increase. Is it media (audio/video/music/etc)? Then choose media in the 'type' drop down. Is it phonecalls? Then choose sph. Is the speaker phone incoming call volume too low? Then set Loudspeaker mode, sph level 6 to a higher setting. Is incoming call volume too low on the ear speaker? Then set normal mode, sph level 6 higher.

You could adjust level 5 higher or level 4 higher etc. When you press the volume up it goes to a higher level. When the volume up button doesn't go any higher that is at the max (i.e. level 6). All the way down is level 0. Adjust how the volume sounds at different levels according to your preferences.

You may also tweak the microphone volume using the above levels as a guide. Callers on the other end of phone calls have described my mic as 'very clear' using the volume level above.
The settings above are pretty good for me but I may change them in time and update this post as needed.

    Hope this helps!

As some of you may already know, I am recently working on GravityBox app that utilizes amazing Xposed Framework coded by rovo89 which provides the interface to mod the system at runtime. Thanks to @peptonib mentioning Xposed couple of days ago to me, I started to think about it and realised what kind of great power hides behind it.
My goal is to provide an app which could be used on any W8 4.2.1 (rooted) stock ROM.
Simply by installing Xposed framework + my GravityBox module users will get access to all the features I've already introduced in my GravityMod2 rom - without needing to actually flash any custom rom. The task is quite challenging and there's still a lot of work to do, but I am confident to say that it looks promising.

Just want to share something about THL W8

Since our THL W8 ringtone and in call volume is low, you may refer link below for tips to increase your ringtone volume, in call volume and mic volume.

    http://www.zopomobileshop.com/zopo-...le-phone-mic-loudspeaker-and-ringtone-volume/
    http://www.patchworkoftips.com/increase-call-volume-android/2028/

If you would like to change your lock screen picture instead of stock blue background picture:

    What i used..
    1.7zip - 7-Zip
    2.Windows 7
    3.ES File Explorer manager

Please backup your phone before you try this as you have high chance to cause the phone cannot boot.

    lets get right into it..

    1. You will need good resolution pictures - 720 x 1280

2.Open ES File Explorer, remember to check "Mount File System" in Setting - navigate to system/framework/

3.Make a copy of your framework-res.apk and put it on your SD card in a safe folder.

4.you can take another copy or the copy that you put on the SD card and put it on your desktop.

    5. In your computer, open the apk with 7zip and navigate to framework-res.apk\res\drawable-xhdpi\
(this is where your portrait pictures go)

    6. Now rename your desire background picture to ic_lockscreen_fill_background_thl with .bmp extension, which is as ic_lockscreen_fill_background_thl.bmp

    7. Now drag your background picture and navigate to framework-res.apk\res\drawable-xhdpi\ and paste inside.

    8. now copy the framework-res.apk that you have modified and paste into your SD card.

9.copy from SD and paste in /system

10.now hold the modified framework-res.apk and bring up the menu and go down to properties then change permissions to rw - r - r. (this is critical, failure will cause a bootloop)

11.now copy the file again and paste it into framework/ and replace the original apk.

12.it will probably be laggy and reboot. which is fine,

    13. Once phone rebooted, you should now have your custom lockscreen pictures.

In case you screwed up your phone, you can flash new firmware:

    Firmware for THL W8: ThL_W8.JB.HD.EN.COM.8P64_MT6589V1.0.13_20130312
The program for the firmware: SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0.119
    Drivers: MT6589 Drivers
Instructions to flash new firmware: W8_firmware_update_manual (it is in russian but you can use google translate)

See your discussions, I go to this" THLmobilestore "site to look at the phone also, the price is not expensive, I found a THL W8 + mobile phone, expensive tens of dollars.

    THL W8+ is a 2GB RAM version.

That was my assumption, too :)
    http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=41959313&postcount=523

I've already tried building my own libdvm but was not able to make it work on my THL W8. There are probably some close relations to other libs that would need to be replaced together with libdvm (maybe whole dalvik stuff).
But I haven't experimented any further with it.

Ah, I'm sorry, even though I thought I've read the whole thread I must have missed this one. Heh, and I thought I've found something new, should have known better :).

I tried to check the dependencies between libs with ldd, but it seems that's not available in busybox. Well, I guess we have to wait for an update or maybe one of the other brands like lenovo or acer to release a fixed rom with working libs. Thanks anyway.

I get the "distance x10" bug, too, using OsmAnd OpenStreetMap-based navigation and map. Also GPS fixes almost always take several minutes despite using FasterGPS, A-GPS, EPO.

The distance bug I can live with, but not being able to rely on GPS is <expletive deleted>. Any suggestions as to what I could do?

That's strange, getting a fix takes usually around 15s and accuracy of the tracks is surprisingly good, a lot better than my SGS. I can get a fix even inside my house at the windows under conditions when my SGS doesn't even find a single satellite.

Have you tried the tool ypgs inside mobileuncle? You can find it under Engineer Mode/Enginee Mode ( MTK ) then shifting to the right to Location. The first Tab Satellites should show immediatly several red dots which turn green and yellow when fixed. If the dots are not showing, you're getting a cold start, meaning your gps doesn't know where to start. Try going outside and wait till you get a fix, could take several minutes for the first time. After that I always got fast fixes in all apps which are using gps. Worth a try anyway.
