I've not got a g2 yet, I've been trying to decide on a case before I do, not for protection just for extra grip for the black model, its a shame the poetic doesn't have a version for the d802.

Anyway I think I may get the black model but get a red replacement back, from the pics it looks better to me with the black side and red back.

I have a s3 and nexus 7 and love the grip of the nexus 7 back, I managed to drop the s3 a few times (after a few drinks) luckily its a tough phone and never broke.

If all you want is for grip, why not get a full body screen protector? You don't even have to use the whole thing just the piece to cover the back, I had from from Xtreme Guard I think for my old Rezound and it gave it a nice grippy feel and is totally clear.

Yeah for the love of god if anyone finds a VS980 case like that, POST!!

or pm, whatever.. I need one of those

Unfortunately it's doubtful that they exist...the red and gold G2's were limited edition and only sold in Asia, so a Verizon variant was probably never even manufactured.

My suggestion would be to get some sort of skin - I bought an Exo Skin (black brushed steel) and it fits great, as well as adds some texture/grip. You can barely tell a skin is ever on, other than the small slits on the corners where it bends (assuming you buy a dark skin to match the black back, and vice versa for white)

They make them for every variant :)

AT&T: http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/lg/exo-skin-2
T-Mobile/Sprint: http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/lg/exo-skin-3
Verizon: http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/lg/exo-skin-4

The differences between the non Verizon ones are due to the LG logo position, since they leave it cut out.

Could you post pictures of the side? Is it weird that the bezel is still glossy plastic or are you indifferent? I'm using and Exo Skin that wraps all the way up the sides. It replaced a Slickwrap which I hated because it didn't cover the sides at all.

Still glossy but it is so thin I don't notice it. You can do the same on the sides but you would have to be careful. When I hold it I feel the back mostly

For the Verizon folks, the exoskins work great as a "replacement" back cover. I did the brushed black aluminum one, it looks like a G3 and if you follow the instructions it looks seamless.
