Yes you could buy the camera between $ 50 to $ 100 that will fit your vehicle compared to the aftermarket kits that are out there that will run $ 400 to $ 1700 (OEM) for certain vehicles, that will use the OEM Nav Screen

Not looking to have a gazillion screens in the car, one for each single application.
Lets bring our tablets/phones to good use !

Hope developers are listening, because they could make real good money on something like this

Anyone got this figured out yet? I found this app http://www.appszoom.com/android_developer/juergen-kienhoefer_byhny.html that might work. but not having any luck finding a bluetooth enabled camera that's waterproof and wide angle that would work for the application. The one for that app is spendy and I don't think it'll work as it just uses an on board battery for the power so you'd have to take it out and charge it regularly and I highly doubt it's waterproof.

I did purchase a cheap backup cam and was trying to find a bluetooth transmitter that I could hook it to either via the cam's RCA output or a 3.5mm jack via an adaptor.

I would love to find an app or have one developed for this that would automatically pair and display the camera once the camera is turned on via the backup lights.

Bump,
Any news on this? I'm in the middle of building a nano ITX carputer and this would be ideal.

I am doing something kind of similar and just discovered this: http://store.contour.com/

Seems pretty expensive, but I am sure there are some other options out there. You have to use their app in order to view the camera's output and the framerate looks like it's pretty poor from what I saw on the iPhone version of the app. Not sure if Android will be better.

This seems to be mac-only but maybe someone has written some custom software to interface with it:

WIFI Camera use Android as Display wireless

You can get a WIFI backup camera, and use your Android phone as display. It is WIRELESS.
Check the demo video out, and see how this Backup Camera for Android works

I purchased the 4ucam Wifi setup. It works good enough, but there is a problem. With the wifi setup to see the camera you can not get data over 4G. This means if you want to use the camera in your car and still be able to get email or map data etc. you must manually turn on your wifi and wait about 10 seconds for the camera to connect. Then when done using the camera (backing up) manually turn off the wifi to enable 4G data again. Then when you get home, manually turn on the wifi again to use your wifi internet connection.

You must also turn off the feature to auto switch between wifi and mobile networks.

This would be the same for any camera using wifi. I've not found a way to use a non-internet connected wifi network and get mobile network data at the same time.

Still searching for a way to get a backup camera on my android phone.

There is a startup in my town who is creating exactly what you want.
It looks great , but the price is a bit insane
