The app only worked for me after I deleted the old Android 4.1 clock app. Freezing it and deleting its data still meant that the new clock app crashed (when opening alarms).

Here are instructions for manually deleting default apps: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/Barebones

I just followed the OPs Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.Copy the file to the /system/app folder on your device using a root explorer like ES File Explorer or similar.
2. Then, set the permissions of the DeskClock.apk file to RW- R– R–. However, before you copy over the APK, make sure to rename the original DeskClockGoogle.apk file (and also DeskClockGoogle.odex if the file is present) to something else to back it up, which you can then restore if needed by simply deleting the new file and renaming the old one again.
3. Reboot your device to be able to use the new clock.

I did exactly this and it worked. Also CM 10, but newer nightly.

Retro 4.1.2 clock available?

Many thanks to TheDarkDefender for the choice of adding the Android 4.2 Desk Clock to previous versions of Android (4.1, etc.).

I'm in perhaps the opposite situation of those originally chasing this thread. I was happily using my Nexus 7 with Android 4.1.2 when the OTA update upgraded me to v4.2, and then just yesterday to v4.2.1. Other than killing my root access (temporarily), in addition to other system changes, the Desk Clock and lock screen clock changed to one like that you've provided via APK.

I like choice. Sometimes I try 'new' just to be different, other times I prefer familiar or more conservative. I personally MUCH prefer the clock used in Android 4.1.2, but I have no way to go back, short of downgrading the O/S.

Is there a way to downgrade (upgrade IMHO) the Android 4.2(.1) clock to the previous 4.1.2 clock?

Here you go. Clear the clock's data, after replacing with original clock (rename).

Yeh caz y'day night only i had upgraded to CM 10 ...so after coming 2 office i updated my Signature ......I will remove the clock & will flash the 4.2 clock again :)
Yes..better. Delete the default clock. Rename the new one to the default one's name. Then delete /data/data/com.android.deskclock ( or clear data). Now reboot. It will work for sure.

Many thanks to TheDarkDefender for providing the DeskClock...which it seems several others are eager to get away from. I lost the URL link to this thread, and now on break, I searched to find it again (I seriously do want to replace my Nexus 7 clock 4.2.1 with it's predecessor !)

I located the system app folder, it appears even with root, I can rename/replace the new clock....yet. May have to go in via another route. Got a few days to play with it. And thanks to you, I've now got the file to make it happen. Thanks again, and, Merry Christmas !

Works on 4.1 AOSP/JB ROMS ONLY

    INSTRUCTIONS:
1.Copy the file to the /system/app folder on your device using a root explorer like ES File Explorer or similar.
    2. Then, set the permissions of the DeskClock.apk file to RW- R– R–. However, before you copy over the APK, make sure to rename the original DeskClockGoogle.apk file (and also DeskClockGoogle.odex if the file is present) to something else to back it up, which you can then restore if needed by simply deleting the new file and renaming the old one again.
    3. Reboot your device to be able to use the new clock.

If you still got problems, follow this--

Flash the zip. Reboot.Delete the original clock. Rename the new clock to DeskClock.apk( like the old one) Then delete /data/data/com.google.android.deskclock. Reboot. Now the both the clock and widget will work perfectly.

I disabled the old clock but I still get the FC when opening alarms. Did I miss something??

    I'm running it on a CM10 EVO 4G LTE

FCs on Samsung Infuse running Paranoid android 2.53. Sorry if this is not meant to be used on other devices than the Xperia Neo.

Going to try it on my CM10 infuse right now, will report findings.

EDIT: FAIL on both tries following normal apk or zip procedure. FC on reboot both times.
Not sure what's causing it, haven't looked into it yet.

    All you need:
    1. OR wipe Desk Clock data with TB or manually via Settings -> Apps.
    2. OR manually delete /datadata/com.android.deskclock.
    3
Didn't get it to work on SlimBean (OASP-based).

    -tried ZIP and APK.
    -tried wiping DeskClock.asp
    -tried renaming DeskClockGoogle.asp to DeskClock.apk
    -Permissions were set properly
Look at this and try to delete /datadata/com.android.deskclock or /data/data/com.android.deskclock, then reboot.

Working great on my SIII. Here are the steps:

    1) Download APK.
    2) Move or rename original DeskClock.apk from /system/app
    3) Copy downloaded APK to /system/app and rename to DeskClock.apk
    4) Set permissions to RW-R--R--
    5) Reboot
    6) Clear app data in System Settings > Applications > Clock

It does not work. It crash when opening.

On jellybean ? Works on 4.1 only
