As to how this was found / done, I quote myself from IRC:

We will post the ROM in question soon, just making sure there aren't any fatal bugs etc.

Awesome job XDA Eris development team!!!

I unfortunately have already updated so I will watch and wait, I'm sure it won't be long

I will also be anxiously waiting for someone to solve the rollback issues, as I'm sure someone will eventually. I never thought I actually want to go back to 1.5

Congratulations!! I too upgraded to 2.1 (just last night! doh!) and am now debating whether to complain about my phone to get a refurb or wait until you either crack the rollback or a 2.1 root....

OUTSTANDING GUYS!!!
Updated to 2.1 already but so did everyone else (including the dev team from what I read..lol

) so I anticipate the 2.1 root soon. You guys are great! This will give my eris life long past what I thought. I am still up for the bounty if anyone is jumpin on it. You deserve a night out or a beer or 20 for the work.

hey do you think that this 2.1 rom was leaked on purpose.. cause htc knew that we were getting close to root.. so they threw out a rom that they knew couldnt be downggraded back to 1.5

No 2.1 wasn't leaked due to the root. I don't want any bounty, and I don't think really any of the dev team wants it.
