Default Is the kindle worth buying?

Hey guys, I'm looking like a lot of others for a cool gift for my 10 year old. Kindles in my area are going for about 100 bucks. I was thinking of buying one for her and installing cm10 on it so she can watch movies and play games. I see the development for this device is strong and is there something better in this price range? Please advise....

Well, before you look at a kindle, have you tried to look for a used 8gb Nexus 7? You wouldn't have to mess with rooting, (unless you like that sort of thing)

I would go for a nexus 7 but they are still going for 150 and up. I don't mind rooting I've been doing it on all my devices since the g1. So is it worth it for 100?

100$ for a Kindle Fire is a decent buy. The market is plagued with cheap tablets that may look good hardware wise but have HORRIBLE battery life. I'd rather have a tablet like the Kindle with no camera, bluetooth or SD card expansion than a tab with a 3 hour battery life. On JB ROMs I could get around 8 hours of continual use and 10+ with CM7 ROMs.

Another good thing about the Kindle Fire, like stated earlier, is the strong development base that exists for it. For a 10 year old child the Kindle is perfect: No camera, no SD slot to become clogged with debris and can easily play videos and music. My 3 year old niece loves to play the Kindle and can navigate it with ease.
