I agree, though 2.5.0.0 is a big improvement in relation to speed, IMO. Didn't have problems flashing, but I have not tried nandroids yet. That's what the previous versions had problems with. Though I do think they were fixed.

I could not restore any backups made with 2.5.0.0. Flashed back to 2.4.4.0, backups from 2.5.0.0 wouldn't restore using that either. Flashed a new ROM, backed it up and restored just fine using 2.4.4.0; I'll be sticking with that for now.

FYI if you place the old recovery in the root of your SD card, can flash from phone using the following from terminal emulator

su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/xxxx.img

Flash Image GUI, which is free on XDA, can also flash recovery while booted to android as long as the file name begins with "recovery".

I'm usually a latest and greatest type of guy, but for my recovery, I stick with what works and only upgrade for a compelling reason like bug fixes or important (to me) new features.

I have been using the v2.5.0.0 for some time now and I have to say it is a major improvement. It use to be that I would want to use NANDROID backups of other FAV ROMS and they would bleed into one another. Now, the problem ever occurs. I currently use 4 ROMs simultaneously and I am really enjoying the separation. Not usre what the problem was originally, but now I do full wipes and restore the NANDROID of my FAV ROMS and I am enjoying the use of different DEV ROMs for the EVO 3D.

I would recommend trying out - just backup the contents of your SDCard.
