Great tutorial. I personally purchased an OTG cable, but I love seeing exactly what's going on inside as well.

It's not about saving $5, it's about learning how things actually work. I understand that there may be an increased chance of shorting out the cable, but I'm glad I didn't have to watch "Bill Nye Shops On eBay" as a kid.

Well done.

Hey that's a cool idea. How about a wiring diagram, or is it as simple as taping on to the Vcc and Gnd lines?

Thank you to the OP for a terrific tutorial. Don't listen to the naysayers who don't understand the value of DIY. Sometimes the application isn't readily apparent.

I recently needed to get a few dozen OTG cables of a specific length that had an OTG Micro-B connector at one end and a regular Micro-B connector on the other. Apparently, such a cable isn't sold anywhere (and we looked hard), or if it is, it is very well hidden from on-line searches. Fortunately, I was able to follow your instructions for modifying the Micro-B connector to create such an OTG cable and save the day with a client of mine.
