Couple quick questions about SubZero.

I swore given the already existing workload of flashing nightlies I wasn't going to get into flashing kernels too. But I simply can't help myself. Mostly due to the fact that I'm struggling to get more than about 13 hours even with light use.

So I've read through everything I can find.. and understand flash Glitch first and then Suzero.

Two questions I couldnt find answers to though. One older thread said if you install subzero with Froyo bootloaderes it will jack up CWM. Any truth to that?

Second in the mediafire folders linked on this thread for each build there is a VC version and a non VC version. Differences?

Thanks,

cale

I have been using this ROM with subzero and Froyo bootloaders and the only problem I have had is spotty GPS. I have installed multiple nightlies and it is running fantastic.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Flashed subzero with no problems.

Couple more things.. first 2 are more observations than questions.

Up/down keys in Glitch recovery are reversed?

I don't get kernel splash screens anymore? Both Glitch and SZ went straight to the CM load screen?

For those of you running subzero with the nigtlies. Are you doing it all in one shot through CWM? Ie.. flash nightly, reboot recovery, flash glitch, reboot recovery, flash subzero, reboot? Or are you doing full reboots in between?

Boot into recovery with Glitch and Subzero in SD
Flash Glitch, it will say something like done or installation finished and go back into recovery, flash subzero, and then reboot and you're good.
If it sticks on the subzero kernel splash screen for more than 10 seconds then go back into recovery and try it again.

Cale42 you can flash glitch and then subzero in one shot without reboot. Subzero build 61 is super fast and stable with working GPS after deep sleep! MP is the man!

Hmmmm.. well I'm more than a little bummed. Based on the posts in here I had very high hopes that subzero kernel would fix my Android System bug. But alas it has not. 3 hours since unplugged and I'm down to 60% and Android System is 33% of the battery use.

I think the next step is a fresh full wipe install.. I've just been installing the nightlies on top of each other.

Has anyone actually figured out a solution to the Android System drain. Or is it one of those.. if you don't have it life is good things and if you do well toughh luck!

It has to be one of your apps thats keeping it awake or something. Android OS battery drain is fixed completely on 4.0.4
I'm switched to ICZen 1.5 right now and its 4.0.4 too but no drain at all. I think you need to do a little test, erase data etc. Flash the 4.0.4 ROM of your choice and keep on it for a day or two without the apps that you would usually install, see if its fixed, if it is then its your apps, if not, im sure more people can try and help out.

I'm kind of thinking the same thing xrider. And just to be completely clear Android OS is completely fine. This is the process Android System. Which involves a bunch of things.

I just did a clean flash now. I think I'll slowly add back apps and see if I can pinpoint anything. I just hate being without certain apps.. like to add them right away :)

Not sure what you mean by big list or maybe you mean changes? Either way what you are doing is playing a PS2 still when you can play a PS3 ;).

I'd go CM9

Thanks I'm just worried about the free ram I only get around 110mb of free ram, I'm just used to the HD2 having bugs in roms since its not a native Android phone. Plus the tool kit confused me, not even sure exactly how I flashed CM7 lol

Try opening Terminal Emulator and writing:
Code:
su
touch /datadata/.nodatadata
reboot

Or via adb:
Code:
adb shell touch /datadata/.nodatadata

And reboot.

It helped.
If it's not a big hassle , I would like to understand what did that change do :).
Thanks in advance!

Cm utilizes a /datadata partition for app data. It is fast but only has 170mb hence the reason you probably got low space notification.
.nodata moves the app data to / data/data not using the "quick" partition but allowing you to use the 2gb app partition .

Instead of not using /datadata partition altogether I would rec using the script someone made that only moves to /data/data if necessary otherwise leaves more commonly used app data in the faster /datadata.

Why are you worried about the free ram? Just flash CM9 and you'll be happy you did trust me :)

What about USB storage? I have only used about 3gb Max and it tells me my free space is only 200mb?

USB storage is different.
The partitions work like this: /datadata is 170mb for app data.
/data is 2gb for apps, which you can also enable /data/data for app data.
the main leftover partition is your sd card 13Gb where you can move your apps.
It should get slower as you use /data/data or sdcard

I would guess your /data is getting full? (though it would take quite a few apps to have 200mb left) Use root explorer to find out, Move less used apps to sd card if that is the case

I'm a noob at flashing on Vibrant so please excuse my slowness, I currently have CM7 and want to install CM9, do I need to flash a different recovery first? If I do need too flash a different recovery can I do it from the phone or do I need a computer?

I came from CM7 to this without any problems. But it may boot loop on you at first because it is flashing the new CM recovery, so if it does just go back into recovery and flash CM9 again and should work.

    Please note that there may be intermittent emergency dialing issues and/or GPS/AGPS issues (including GPS daemon crashing, which does not restart) which could hinder location of you in an emergency.

    CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

    Code:
    #include <std/disclaimer.h>
    /*
     * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear
     * war, or the current economic crisis caused by you following these
     * directions. YOU are choosing to make these modificiations, and
     * if you point your finger at me for messing up your device, I will
     * laugh at you.
     */

    This thread is for the development of CyanogenMod 9 nightlies for the Samsung Vibrant (aka SGH-T959), the Galaxy S 4G / Vibrant 4G (SGH-T959V) is not supported here. Nightlies are built each night with the very latest code, for this reason, they are extremely experimental and should be avoided by beginners and people who have important responsibilities tied to the usage of their phone.

    CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

    All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

    [font=Calibri, Arial]FAQ[/font]
    Q: I can't add my Google account!
    A: Install the Google Apps package from CWM recovery, linked above. This is standard procedure with CyanogenMod ROMs due to licensing issues with Google.

    Q: Can you enter service mode with *#*#197328640#*#* like CM7?
    A: Yes.

    Q: I keep getting "Installation Aborted" error 7
    A: Install the Glitch kernel and retry.

    Q: Where's the changelog?
    A: http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#vibrantmtd/cm9/latest

    Q: When will the Linaro tweaks be merged?
    A: Don't know.

    The CyanogenMod team would like to thank everyone involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging & documenting! Enjoy!

    [font=Calibri,Arial]How to Build[/font]
    First initialize your build environment.

    Now follow the "installing repo" section in this guide:
    http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html

    Now downloading CyanogenMod source:
    Code:
    mkdir ~/Desktop/CM9
    cd ~/Desktop/CM9
    repo init -u http://github.com/CyanogenMod/android.git
    repo sync -j24

    More setup:
    Code:
    . build/envsetup.sh
    breakfast cm_vibrantmtd-userdebug

    Getting proprietary files:
    You must have a copy of CM9 for the Vibrant running on your phone for this part.
    Code:
    ( cd device/samsung/vibrantmtd && ./extract-files.sh )

    Compiling:
    Code:
    mka bacon
    9
    911

    Ok so here is my 911 experience. I live in Denver by the way, and I just emailed the 911 operations manager about doing a test call. She said that is fine just please do it between 8:30 and 11:30 as that is their lowest call volume.

    So the first time I called it clicked, hung up and disabled my entire cell signal. No signal no data nothing. So I rebooted my phone, and google voice informed me I had 2 missed calls from the Denver PD. I tried again and it worked perfectly. I explained I was testing a piece of software, the woman was very friendly said that was no problem and they wouldn't send anyone out. She also confirmed that all the E911 info came up properly on her screen.

    So I'm not sure what to make of this exactly. One time it did nothing though at least my number got through. The other time it worked great. I mean the first time could have been a glitch entirely unrelated to CM. Hard to say. It leaves me ambigious though. If I have a real emergency I really don't want to wait for the phone to reboot!

    Oh and per my previous message of issues with Exchange.. turned out my work Exchange server was down. Working great now!
