Well if he or she is from Asia there is a high probability.. :) that was my assumption when I answered. Also why I mentioned the international version bricking.

On the danger of sounding completely stupid, but I just failed trying to root my HTC One X using the instructions written here at the first post of this thread.

Getting the ADB connection to work was no problem (I successfully rooted my HTC Desire Z at a time, where you had to first DOWNGRADE your firmware and then even needed to create a gold card to unlock it, so I think I can handle difficult instructions).

But when I click on the root.bat all I get is a stream of error messages:

------------------------------------------
DON'T TOUCH THE DEVICE OR UNPLUG WHILE ROOTING!
PUSH FILES
failed to copy 'busybox' to '/data/local/busybox': Permission denied
failed to copy 'su' to '/data/local/su': Permission denied
failed to copy 'Superuser.apk' to '/data/local/Superuser.apk': Permission denied

Unable to chmod /data/local/busybox: No such file or directory
Unable to chmod /data/local/su: No such file or directory
Unable to chmod /data/local/Superuser.apk: No such file or directory
failed on '/data/local/tmp' - Permission denied
link failed File exists

REBOOT
------------------------------------------

Seems to me that I'd need root access to copy files like busybox or perform the other actions in the script.

But then again this tool is supposed to grant me root access!!!

What am I doing wrong?

My HTC One X is brand new out of the box featuring the following software info:

-------------------------------------------------

Android-Version: 4.0.4
HTC Sense Version: 4.1
Software-Nummer: 2.17.111.3
HTC SDK API Stufe: 4.23
HTC Extension Version: HTCExtension_401_1_GA_20

Kernel-Version: 2.6.39.4-gacfdfb2
root@ABM033 #1
SMP PREEMPT
Baseband-Version: 2.1204.137U.21
Build-Nummer: 2.17.111.3 CL97613 release-keys
Browser-Version: WebKit/534.30

-------------------------------------------------

Could it be, that something has changed in the meantime and the rooting does not work any more as it did some months ago?
I have read about a 2.20 version causing problems, but my phone seems to be a 2.17, right?

I don't have the time to dig myself through several more 80 pages long threads, so if anybody has a quick answer, I'd highly appreciate it. It might also help other people just having received their One X to not run into the same trap.

Unfortunately, this method will not work for you. This is only for the S4 powered HTC One X. I believe your phone is tegra 3. There is a section here on xda for that version.

I didn't know that there is more than one HTC One X version. I know that HTC released the One + to make things more complicated, but that they released the same phone twice, once with a S4 and another one with a Tegra 3 processor was new for me.

I guess I have the Tegra 3 since I got it from my German provider Telekom (formerly known as T-Mobile Germany).

I am checking the other threads now, thank you.

The title of this thread is pretty misleading BTW. Since it says "[ROOT] One Click HTC One X (AT&T/Rogers/Others) (Win/Mac/Linux)" I thought I am covered by the "Others" part...

Thank you for your quick clarification!

Do you have the dual core or the quad core? Are you even on firmware 1.73 or 1.82? My guess is you have the quad core. Goodluck

YAY!!! it worked :D okay so what got me to get the tampered sign was trying to flash the TWRP from the tool kit. Everytime i tried to flash it, I got two boxes that popped up from the toolkit....the 1st one i think said device not found then show the file location then i would close that message and another one popped up saying the recovery was installed but it never rebooted like the man in video i was following...

...so i just rebooted the phone and then went back into bootloader & seen that.

So what do i do now? Im trying to install the VenomROM so I know i need to unlock the BL again but whats next? Should I try to do the recovery again from the toolkit?

EDIT: I tried to reinstall the recovery but didnt work again and i dont want to have to relock the BL and reinstall the RUU but now along with "tampered" it says "security warning". Does any of this even matter since I want to install another ROM? I would prefer it not to say those things though...btw my phone is working fine. Im not stuck in any loops or nothing. The stock is running fine with the tampered & warning.

Until we get S-OFF it will always have the *Tampered* and *Unlocked* flags on the boot loader. You don't have to worry about them unless you have to pull warranty/insurance on your phone. Than they are bad to have.

I understand that method from this thread won't work on International HOX+?

I just search for tool to root phone only without any custom recovery and unlocking bootloader.

Hey guys,
I installed the driver (although the one you put in the link doesn't really work so I used PdaNET) , made sure no adb.exe processes were running, switched off Antiviruses and Firewalls... put my usb in the back of my desktop and not in the front ports.. and here's what I get:

* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *

DON'T TOUCH THE DEVICE OR UNPLUG WHILE ROOTING!

Any hints?

Try the manual method, the 2.20 X-Factor, or just go to the s-off thread and turn off security (better than root) :p

Darren. Your all over the place. Slow down! Read, read, read. Hansoon's one click is the method that would probably work best for you. I like you're enthusiasm. honestly would you respond to a full tilt post post post post when they should read read read. I don't want to see you brick you phone so pm me and I can help you out tomorrow a little.

    What will this do?
This will root your One X, install Busybox, and install the SuperSU application for rights management.
    Instructions

    1. Download and install the HTC mobile phone drivers. [Windows]
    2. Download the mod edit: link removed
    3. Extract root.zip into a directory on your computer.
    4. Plug your HTC One X into your computer via USB. Recommended: Plug your device’s USB cable into the back of your computer if you’re using a desktop PC.
    5. Enable USB Debugging on your HTC One X. Settings >> Developer Options >>USB debugging (checked)
    6. Double click root.bat/root-linux.sh/root-mac.sh to run the script.
    7. Congratulations! Your device will reboot a number of times and then you will have full root access.
    Who do I thank?
Don't thank me. Thank sparkym3 for this exploit. Thank crisis187 for testing it out first! Thanks viperboy for the primetime tool!
Linux/Mac untested. Should be working now. Let me know if there are problems.

Now it should work. File host problem. My bad guys!

    Tips:

-Disable HTC Sync when you do this
-Make sure the port is open
    -kill existing ADB.exe processes

otherwise you can get adb server out of date messages and a few other errors

Another quick question (and maybe something that should be mentioned in the OP for other folks), does this reset the device? Any backup of settings/apps needs to be done prior?

    No it does not.

Edit: heading to bed (5:36 AM) so I'll be up in 8 or so hours for more questions and support.

Should already do that with adb kill-server command.
