The Maxx phones were built for battery. They tend to have slightly lower specs and many power saving features built in. Also, the S3 has an AMOLED screen which takes up a ton of battery, and then of course the many built in Samsung features that drain battery. If you turn off location services, GPS and maps your battery should last a lot longer. Also all the Samsung Smart features kill battery. Not much you can do for the screen, except maybe lowering screen brightness and turning on Power Saving Mode.

I neglected to mention that I am running CM 10.2 so none of Samsung's battery killers are here. I just can't see the Maxx lasting so much longer, but the proof is all over this thread. I keep the GPS Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off until I use it and still. the Maxx might be the way to go but it looks like even the x might get better battery life than I with half the mAh of my extended
