you could try uninstalling it and re downloading it from the market, or you could try going to settings/ applications / manage applications and clearing the cache for maps.
also if you used the google add on zip, you could try re-downloading and re-flashing it.

there is no maps or google maps in the applications , but my market download says that i've an update for google maps but when i download it , it doesn't let it install

Been there, done that. The simple, short & sweet solution was to just wipe everything, and reinstall from scratch. (The hard, long and bitter solution (which in the end didn't solve anything) was to Google and search and try different ways 'til my fingers bled.)

I'm tempted to try swapper2 but I'm afraid for my microSD, since I don't know how quickly or slowly it will be degraded by the continuous erase/write cycles. :confused:

HELP!

Ive been using CM ROMs since the first test version of CM 5, never had any problems. Ive now been using CM 5.0.8 stable since it came out and out of nowhere it suddenly started bootlooping. I completely wiped and re-flashed and although the ROM works, as soon as I reboot the phone I go back into that same bootloop. I have no idea what the hell is going on :confused: I would appreciate it if someone could help me out, thanks.

had the same reoccurring issues with market every time i flashed the new roms. found this bit of info and seems to work after doing this:

basically, open dialer, type in *#*#2432546#*#* (don't need to press anything after entering the last "*" it will automatically accept the input) and should be fixed.

just so everyone is aware, because i've read through the thread the last 15+ pages and about just one person tried this it looked like, this DOES work.

thank you for fixing my annoying market. any way CM can include this as a fix? or is it a chance fix and im one of the lucky ones?

my_former_self, your setup post sounds good and I want to give it a go. Just wondering though, to use Swapper 2, do I already have to have my sd card formated with a swap partition before use?

no because swapper2 creates a swap file as opposed to a partition. which has it's advantages in that it can by altered on the fly. I personally prefer partitions out of habit but to each his own.

Yup, ftruck is right. Swapper2 will create the file for you (per your settings). You CAN use it with a partition, too, though if you choose. Like ftruck said, it's a matter of habit or preference.

I'd say try this: Give the FILE swap a go. Try it for a week. If it seems to have helped, then make a permanent swap PARTITION and tell Swapper2 to use the partition, instead of the file, and tell it where the partition is (in its Advanced Settings). No matter what you do, though, do NOT use this along with CompCache. In my experiences (I tried multiple setup situations), it only made problems. Also, I have home set to be kept in memory. Just FYI as to my setup.

NOTE: Amon_Ra's recovery makes partitioning SUPER EASY. You can choose how much SWAP, how much EXT (set it to 0 if you want none) and then it automatically uses the rest as FAT32. REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR FAT32 PARTITION DATA FIRST! <-- I'm not responsible if you forget and lose your stuff!

NOTE #2: If you choose to go the partition route at some point...a few pointers for Swapper2. If you use an EXT partition (i.e. Apps2SD), then your swap partition location should end in '3' in Swapper2's advanced settings. If you do NOT use an EXT partition, but just a FAT32 and swap, then the line should end in '2'.

Thank you kindly. Sounds quite easy to use rather than creating a swap partition (although Like my_former_self said with Amon RA, it's easy to do). And I assume if I no longer want to use it, I just uninstall and delete the created swap file. Correct?

I'm going to have to add this to the list of things "other G1's can do fine, but my G1 just has to be different" file. I've tried this 2 times in the past 24 hours and it doesn't seem to take for me. Still get the "return reload" syndrome. I swear my G1 is so siddity! lol

Double thanks for the tips and clarification. Just going to finish up setting everything up how I like it and then i'll have to give swapper2 a go. I also have home kept in memory enabled now as well as compcache, but I will definitely turn off CC when I go the swapper route. 2 more quick questions if you dont mind, I hear all the horror stories about how swap kills your sd card. How drastic is this really or is it one of those things that get overblown? Also, if swapper2 works really well and I want to go ahead and create a swap partition, do I need to fully reformat my sd card or can I just go into my Amon RA recovery and add the swap partition to my already existing 7gb FAT32/550mb EXT3 partitions?
Thank you again in advance.

Pertaining to the wear on the SD card:

There are varying opinions. Also, there is the use of the phone, what apps are installed (and how they use the phone), if you use Apps2SD, what class card you have, etc...to consider. So, unfortunately, there's not a clear answer.

BUT...if I had to give one, I'd say it's minimal. Most likely, you will have bought another phone by the time your card deteriorates. I also back up the contents of my FAT32 partition (which includes my nandroid or bart backups) once in awhile into a zip file on my computer for safe keeping. Plus, SD card prices are coming down faster and faster. I'd say don't worry about it.

Pertaining to the partitioning:

Yes, unfortunately, you DO have to completely reformat the card.

First thing's first, boot into recovery and do a backup (NOTE: Choose Nandroid+Ext to backup your Apps2SD partition. If you get an error, then choose Bart backup, instead).

Then, activate USB support from recovery, plug her into your computer and backup the contents of your FAT32 partition (which, of course, is everything you see in the card on your computer). Now you have a backup of your card contents which includes the current configuration of your OS (i.e. Your Nandroid or Bart backup).

Deactivate USB and unplug. Format your card with whatever settings you like. When it is done, DO NOT REBOOT! One more time...DO NOT REBOOT! Your card is empty, specifically the EXT partition that holds all your apps. If you reboot now, FC's out the butt, baby. You need to refill it.

And how do we do that, folks? Activate USB, plug her in and copy all that stuff we just copied to your computer back onto the card. Once it's done, deactivate USB and unplug. Then...Nandroid (or bart) restore! <--If it doesn't find a backup, DON'T PANIC. Just choose to reboot...BUT REBOOT RIGHT BACK INTO RECOVERY. Then, restore. That's the nice thing about backups; even if you accidentally booted into the OS and got all sorts of FC's and the entire world collapses in upon itself...ok, maybe not that part...you can just pull the battery, slap it back in, boot into recovery and restore. Like my signature says, "If only life had a nandroid..." :D

Now, reboot into the OS, let it settle in (give it a couple minutes to get everything going), and then pop open Swapper2 and tell it to use your new swap partition instead of the file. Then, click the "ON" button to get it to startup. You can get rid of the swap file now.

Hope that helps!

P.S. - For future reference, remember that Swapper2 needs to be turned back on after any reboot.

P.P.S. - If you get any FC's, run fix_permissions from the Terminal Emulator or from recovery.

Do you by chance have SetCPU installed and you recently checked the option to "Set on Boot"? I know that when I did that and I rebooted the phone. It went into a boot loop and just wouldn't stop until I had to re-flash the ROM. This included wiping everything.

Not saying that SetCPU couldn't be the culprit, but for the record, I have SetCPU installed and "Set on Boot" is checked. Never once had a boot loop. I would venture a guess as to either SetCPU is set to the wrong frequencies or a permission is wrong somewhere.

But for bug squashing's sake, please post the version of SetCPU you have installed, if installed.

I'm sorry but I forget exactly what version of SetCPU I had installed but it was the version that was included in Chromatic ROM 3.5.

Camera.apk

Does anyone know how to replace the camera in v5.0.8 final? Meaning, I know how to remove the file and sign it and replace it. But, when I tried using the camera from test 4, it doesn't show up. So, I guess my question is does anyone know what to do to get another camera to work on this rom? Or where i can get an origional 2.1 camera apk. Not the one with the 720 setting, i'm sure it's been mentioned that this setting doesn't work. I can live with that. But, the lower MMS setting doesn't work either.

    After a bunch of hard work from a lot of people, I'm happy to present CyanogenMod Eclair (Android 2.1) for the HTC Dream and HTC Magic!

    Code:
    #include <std_disclaimer.h>
    /*
     * Your warranty is now void.
     *
     * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
     * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
     * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
     * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
     * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
     */

    There is some new ground being broken here, and a few bugs to still shake out but I believe that it should be pretty stable as a daily driver. Please help us out with *quality* bug reports (including logs).

    It's important to know that the "DangerSPL" (or DeathSPL or Haykuro's SPL or whatever you prefer) is a prerequisite for Dream/G1 users. Magic (MT3G etc) users do *not* need to do this. Ciwrl has written a guide to installing this bootloader. Flashing this bootloader under the wrong conditions can actually brick your device, so pay attention to the guide. CM releases have always avoided this requirement, but the new bootloader frees up enough space so that no crazy hacks are required for a fully functional system, and it's easier to keep in sync with the N1/Droid releases.

    What's NOT included that you'd find on a Nexus One:
    * Launcher2 (too clunky for these devices)
    * Stock Live Wallpapers (LWP support is there, but may not work with all LWP apps and/or performance may be bad)
    * Facebook (install from the Market, contact sync works perfect, at least on Sapphire)
    * Google Voice (install from Market, push notify works perfect)
    * Gallery3D (too much of a memory hog)

    What's included:
    * Everything that goes with Eclair
    * 3D, video, camera, camcorder, BT, WiFi, etc are all of course working

    CyanogenMod extras:
    * Can be used with or without Google applications
    * Kernel 2.6.34 with Pershoot's tweaks
    * ADWLauncher is the default launcher!
    * Complete music app overhaul by Eliot Stocker
    * New Apps2SD method implemented mostly by Chris Soyars.
    * Built in USB & Bluetooth tethering
    * Graphical enhancements, #boobs, and excellent wallpapers by Prash and SatanR1
    * Includes BusyBox, htop, nano, powertop, openvpn, bash, irssi, and all engineering commandline utilities
    * FLAC audio support from Kenny Root
    * Phone enhancements from Cytown
    * Contacts enhancements from Wysie
    * MMS enhancements from, well, everyone (see changelog)
    * Perform zipalign-on-install of applications
    * DeskClock tweaks- longer autosilence and "require unlock" option :)
    * Massive APN list
    * All available locales are included thanks to PsychoI3oy
    * 360-degree auto-orientation by Optedoblivion and Elanthis (enable in settings)
    * OpenVPN integration thanks to James Bottomley
    * Music app can respond to long-press on the volume buttons (from Metalhead)
    * Many other bugfixes and tweaks from AOSP contributors
    * Tons of work on the build system by Koush and Chris Soyars
    * Big thanks to Zinx for debugging some really difficult issues! He really deserves most of the credit for getting this thing working so well.
    * See the full CHANGELOG for all credits and details

    All source code is available at the CyanogenMod Github! Send pull requests with your changes!

    INSTRUCTIONS:
    - First time flashing CM-5?
    1. Root your device and install Clockwork Recovery (ROM Manager on the market) or Amon_RA's recovery (Dream / Magic)
    2. Do a Nandroid backup!
    3. Install the DangerSPL if you don't already have it
    4. WIPE (I cannot guarantee an upgrade from CM-4.2 to CM-5 will work)
    5. Install the ROM
    6. Optionally install the Google Addon if you want Google Applications like Gmail and Market

    - Upgrading?
    1. Do a Nandroid Backup!
    2. Install the ROM (your Google apps will be backed up and restored automatically)

    HOW TO REPORT BUGS OR PROBLEMS?
    - Was it a hard reboot? Get me the file "/proc/last_kmsg".
    - Was it a soft reboot or a "boot loop"? Run "adb logcat" and get me the full output.
    - Pastebin links preferred
    - Please use the issue tracker whenever possible!

    A few known issues;
    * Facebook from market breaks sync for Market users (see forum for alternative apk) - only on Dream, Sapphire is OK. Blame Facebook.
    * End-Button-behavior in Spare Parts only works on 'Sleep' mode
    * Camera apps may leak memory
    * It's possible to corrupt your recovery image when running flash_image and memory is low. If this happens, you'll have to flash it with fastboot. It's a kernel problem that's being looked into

    Thank you to EVERYONE involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging and documenting! Enjoy!

    read every page still didn't get an answer.

    K, on Cyan forums, and IRC, Cyan stated that they Battery % indicator was NOT causing the bat drain. There's no way it could. He was just tired of people sitting there baby sitting their phones watching it drain by % and posting "my phone just went from 99% to 70% in 5 min. wah wah wah..."

    It was turned off by default in T6 I believe. You can turn it back on in Spare Parts.

    I just installed the rom on my G1, but I have the problem that I can't get any data connection via UMTS/3G. the APN is correct. Is there any solution?

    Whenever I try to do a Nandroid backup via recovery console, it fails and tells me to run nandroid-mobile.sh via the command line console.

    This works but I dont think it backs up EXT. How can I verify this? Is there another switch besides -b?

    nandroid-mobile.sh -b
    Run nandroid-mobile.sh | more and it'll dump an entire long list of switches you can use.

    OK, on 06/20 I flashed 5.0.8 Stable, moving from 5.0.8 test 4 (used Amon Ra's recovery to do it). 5.0.8 fixed a lot of problems I was having, particularly with the Gallery and USB Mount. Great work there.

    However, I then Installed Recovery Mod (Clockwork). Still had recovery mode, because this morning, I flashed Community Hero Mix 2.1. I didn't check for the Recovery mode after doing that.

    Then, I downloaded an update for Clockwork out of the market. I installed the new Recovery Mod. Then, since everything was working, I went to do a Nandroid. Power Off, then power on + Home button does nothing but lock at the G1 start screen.

    I've pulled the battery multiple times to get out of the start screen lock. I've re-installed Amon Ra's Recovery, downgraded to the previous version of Clockwork, and re-installed the Clockwork recovery. Ran fix_permissions, phone hung up. Eventually, the battery died. Now, it plain won't get past the G1 logo. Nothing's working. Noticed on Amon Ra's page that his recovery won't work for 5.0.7 because of a "memory leak". But if that's the hold-up, I shouldn't have been able to get to 5.0.8 test 4, then to stable, should I?

    G1, ClockworkMod 2.0.0.7, Cyanogen 5.0.8-Stable, CHM 2.1, DangerSPL'd.

    I CAN GET TO FASTBOOT, BUT DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT I CAN DO FROM THERE!

    you miss understand
    ra is compatible with cm5.0.x, it is cm5.0.x which has a bug flashing recovery images

    fastboot is here
    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=463627
    ( I'm assuming you are a windows user, since you can't find it yourself, if not search is here http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partne...s7umqefhnf&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=fastboot&sa=Search )

    once you have fastboot setup on your pc
    get your phone into fastboot mode, plug in the usb then from command prompt on the pc
    Code:
    fastboot flash recovery C:\downloads\recovery<version>.img

    you may need the correct usb drivers for adb, search for adb

    personally I wouldn't bother with clockwork, especially since cm5.0.x has issues flashing recovery images
